I am 49 years old and I have been a yo-yo dieter for most of my adult life. I did have some success with the low carb/high protein for awhile, but I found myself craving carbs and I gained back more than what I lost. My doctor has warned me to lose weight because I have hypertension and I am also a borderline diabetic. Both health conditions run in my family and I don't want to be another statistic. I desperately want to lose weight but I find myself frustrated and end up getting hooked into one weight loss plan after another only to be disappointed and hungry. I NEED HELP!!

Since formal plans aren't working well for you, you might want to do what I did and start with simple portion control--eat basically what you're eating now, just cut it down by 1/3 to 1/2. Instead of 2 cups of cereal, have one cup, cut any candy bars in half, etc. This isn't as painful as jumping into a strict diet program, and really helped me get into the habit of eating less. Do the same thing with exercise, but in reverse--start out with just a little, even if it's only walking to the corner and back, and ease into doing more. It also helps a lot to learn about calories and track what you eat for a few days, to see where your problem areas are. I use www.fitday.com to track my calories; you can also find inexpensive pocket-sized calorie-counting books and other websites. Once you've eased into an informal program for a few weeks, it's a lot easier to really get serious. Good luck.
