we had watermellon for lunch... well.... its good if im just going with the cals thing... i had about 1.5 lbs of mellon (i am guessing! the kids and i just sat with a spoon and the mellon!!!!) and it was only 96 cals....
i am unsure tho about the atkins diet.... or reducing carbs in general... that mellon i had had 22 grams of carbs.... which is almost the daily limit for atkins.... i understand the need for ppl with lung problems to avoid carbs (being that carbs break down into CO2 and CO2 is bad for folks with bad lungs) and i know a lot of ppl with my particular disease who have greatly increased their ability to breathe... but i dont know if i could do that!!!
anyways... i just had a bad moment this morning... cause everything i have read says you have to eat only 1200 cals to loose weight and i was just panicing! i guess holding onto my food.... but i went to the calculator on this site... and it says to maintain my weight... i need to eat 2730 cals... so if i cut down to about 1800 or so i can still loose... especially if i increase my calorie OUTPUT...
so.... my plan is to eat at around 1800... and exercise EVERY DAY... at least my 1mi dvd workout.... by sept 2 i want to be doing the 2mi 3 days a week and the 1 mi 4 days (the 1mi with weights) [2 weeks] by sept 30 [6 weeks] i want to be doing the 2 mi with weights every day.... does that seem doable??

ok, here is the math,
you must take in 3500 calories less than you need to maintain your weight
to lose one pound,
....so if you say you need 2730 cal. a day to maintain your current weight,
and you plan to eat only 1800 cal. a day, then -
2730
-1800
--------
930
930 x 7 (days) = 6510
6510 divided by 3500 = 1.86
So you should expect to lose about 1.86 pounds per week.
....of course as you lose weight the amount of calories your body
needs to mantain a reduced weight will decrease as your weight decreases,
so you weight loss may be less each week if all other factors stay the same.
(daily calorie intake and exercise amount)
To increase weight loss you would need to reduce calorie intake
(but no lower than 1200 is usually recommended)
or increase your exercise amount, or a combination of both.
How much weight you lose each week is up to whatever you
are comfortable with and where you can keep with the program,
the main thing is that you keep losing some each week
that way you will stay encouraged to stick with it :-)
Stay encouraged - you can do it !!!!!
