 work out advice

I have started a new little "workout" program.

My hubby bought me the 4-pack of "The Firm" workout DVD's. I had tried them a few times and told him how much I liked them.

So.. I did one on Wednesday... and then on Thursday was too sore to do it again..so.. I did some gardening. So... today I do it again...different workout...same principle.

The past two times I have done them... I have a strange reaction. I am wondering if this is just because I am so out of shape...or if I am doing too much...or ...if this is just right and I just need to adjust.
I get very shaky and have a little nausea when I am done...this goes away in about an hour. I realize that my muscles are gonna feel fatigued after (what feels like) a million squats and lunges...but... is this normal/OK? Is this just the sign of a good work out? I am thinking the nausea is coming from all the water I am drinking (too fast) while I am exercising. I tend to get that way if I drink too much water too fast (my husband says this is just my way of trying to get out of drinking water) but... it is true...I get a stomach ache if I drink too much water. :)

Anyone have the same thing? Am I overdoing it...or do I just need to keep trucking away and get stronger.

KMom,

How long has it been since you've exercised last? If you are jumping straight into an exercise program like "The Firm" and doing all the things those "spandex goddesses" are doing, I think you're overdoing it a bit.

Do they recommend any modifications for each exercise or is there different levels (beginners, intermediate, etc.).

If you feel shakey, ill and ache after doing these tapes, chances are, unless you enjoy feeling that way, you may start thinking up good excuses not to do the exercises and you won't want to stick with that program for any length of time. In the worst case senario you can seriously injure something.

If you haven't exercised in a very long time, I would recommend you start out slowly by doing a walking program and some light strength and flexibility exercises and work your way up to a more strenuous program. But that's just my opinion.

I like the exercise motto that says: NO PAIN?.....NO PAIN.

I have not been exercising like I had been in the past...and have started back up with these...so...maybe I should slow down a little. They do have one person doing a modified version... her name is Suzanne :)... anyway..I will keep doing them... I like them... maybe I will just do it a little more softly... and not get so worked up when I do them...eventually I will get stronger..and then I can kick it up a notch.

Thanks Fab...

Kristie:
I also get nauseated when I drink a lot of cool water. I've found that if I warm the water it doesn't effect me that way. When you drink cold water your body burns a fue caleries warming it up but I balance that against the fact that I don't drink as much if I'm going to feel sick.
Try it at different temperatures and see if it makes a difference for you.
