I've lost 108 pounds in 2 years. I wouldn't have succeeded without baby steps. Trust me, they do add up.
First off, instead of journaling, counting calories, etc, just try to be conscious of the food you're eating. Use substitutions. Instead of chips, try pretzels. Instead of candy, try fruit, etc. Instead of regular pop all day, slowly add diet pop into your regimen. Also, it doesn't hurt to follow the food guide pyramid.
Second, moving. Sure, an hour of cardio a day is great, but, if you're just starting it, even 10-15 minutes is wonderful. You can always build on that. That was me two years ago, and now I'm up to an hour of cardio a day and lifting weights 3 x a week.
Once you start feeling better, you'll be able to do more and more baby steps. They do add up. It will take time, but, before you know it, you'll be at your goal weight.

"Nor do I like fixing seperate meals"
My suggestion is for you to research healthy meals recipes that will benefit the health of those you love and to eat the same in the proper portions...Fill up with salads, and veggies etc and keep the carb portions of your meals smaller....
From the moment a person choses to diet the pressure is on...Chose a healthier lifestyle and take small steps you feel comfortable taking...
" I have a small child which keeps me busy and very little time for myself"...
Then include your child in some of the physical aspect of your new and improved lifestyle...
If you think you can afford it, check out gyms with a child care facility, The benifits you will get from regular exercises will help you cope with the demends of raising children...You will have more energy, feel less stressed out, and be happier(those are definite gooodies for your child)
If you can`t afford the gym, then make your child your training partner...
Bring out the stroller and take walks at a faster pace then strolling...
Check out local play groups (usually free) ..Not only do you get to roll around and have fun with your child but you also get to have adult conversation with the other parents...
Put on some music and dance, dance, dance....
Will power is not something you have, it`s something you gain as you learn better choices...Hope this helps...G

I agree with simply trying. I could not have lost all of this weight if I cooked separate meals for myself and my family - nor - can you be expected to do this forever. Weight loss is a forever lifestyle change - not a temporary thing.
I do eat whatever I cook my family, just smaller portions.

Just to echo what was said above.
First and foremost you must accept the fact that "Diets" DON'T WORK. There are several EASY ways to lose the weight--Atkins, Slimfast, starving, pills. But I'm assuming that you want to KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF...right? These "diets" won't do that for you because you cannot live the rest of your life drinking 2 shakes and eating one meal (ask Tommy Lasorta).
Adapting a healthy lifestyle with a good balanced diet; proper portion sizes (no "super sizes"); occasional treats and celebrations in moderation; and programmed daily exercise will get you to where you want to go.
Removing the excess fat AND changing your unhealthy habits isn't going to happen in 7, 10, or 30 days. It is going to take time and effort on your part. If you think that it is worth it to be fit, energetic and healthy and to be a strong, lean, and healthy mom and wife--there should be NO EXCUSES! Don't buy into the "no time for exercise or healthy food" excuses the "junk food fueled" portion of your brain is trying to sell you.
Right now, drink a very large glass of water, grab an apple, and put your child in the stroller and go out for a walk--and think about what the above posts are telling you.

Wow! just from my own experience. Its all about lifestyle changes! Are you willing to make them? I have had the hardest time. Just the other night I started to eat something because I was upset! I had to take a step back and say do I want to eat this because it will help my body? or my emotions?
Before that ,I didn't care. I do now and I want the best for my body so that I can be healthy for me and my family!
