 where to start?

Hi...I am new to the site and looking for help! I am motivated to lose 50 lbs and checked out LA Weight Loss yesterday. I am skeptical about their costs and have read some negative reviews on line. But now where to start? I keep thinking I can do this on my own, but have failed in the past. I belong to a gym, but don't make the time to go.Where have other people started? Thanks, Gerri

I started with Body for Life. The site is www.bodyforlife.com

You can do it on your own. The easiest thing to do is to first figure out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight and subtract 500 from that. You can go to the home page of this site for the calculator.

Then start counting and writing down everything you eat. It is very easy to eat more than you think you are and underestimate your calorie count. Add in exercise when you can. Walking is good and if you are able to hit the gym, that's even better. I prefer elliptical machines for cardio. By mixing up cardio and weight training you can't go wrong.

Hi Gerri,

I am doing this "on my own" but these guys on this message board have really helped. Let me just say that I do not like to "chat" online normally, but these folks have been so helpful. Every time i burn out or give up or get discouraged I come here and these guys really get me back on track. m It's almost like I have to answer to them.

I started by doing two things. First walking. I walked twice a day. That way if i didn't do ne walk, i didn't have to feel guilty. At first my knees hurt ( I have bad knees and many other excuses) but somebody told me that of course my knees hurt, I was nearly a hundred pounds overweight.

The second thng I did was measure my food and keep track of it. I was shocked at how my "serving" was three times as much as the recommended serving in many food items.

I've just passed week eleven, and I can honestly say this journey is getting fun.
It's gotten to be like a hobby. I have since invested about $100 in a home gym made up of used equipment. I have an eliptical machine, and weights and a bench.

Of course I still have a long way to go, but the almost twenty pounds I've lost makes a huge difference in my life. Imagine carrying around a twenty pound weight all day! No, really pick one up and see for your self!

So anyway, almost dailey now I can see a difference in my body (I have to say that weight training makes a quick dramatic change in appearance. I swear the other day I walked in front of a mirror without a shirt on and didn't recognize the image as me.

Mostly, don't give up. As long as you don't give up you can change your life.

Good cardio and counting calories is a great place to start. Check out the homepage of this site to determine what you calorie intake should be. Then, write down everything you eat. Weight loss is all about calories in versus calories out. Keep coming to this site for information, inspiration and motivation. We are here to help!
