 where do you get clothes?

where do you guys go to get clothes? i have the most terrible time finding things. im 5 10" 180 and i wear anything from a 13-21 depending on the brand. i seem to be blessed with an odd sizing and cant find anything in my size, i spent 6 hours at a mall where the JC pennies was two and a half floors the size of a standard walmart and only one store carried 13-15 jeans and they only got a few pairs once or twice a year or something like that.....i tried ordering stuff from a cataloug but ended up sending stuff back all the time when it still wasnt the right size, am i the only person who has this happen? i could make my own but im not quite that talented with my machines yet and its expensive to have stuff made for you/ tailored when your trying to lose weight. i am currently looking at mens jeans in size 33-34 but they dont fit very nicley in the seat.... when i was smaller i had to have my mother alter stuff all the time. i had to order a dress for the scholl choir in a size 14 (i should have been a 10) so it was the right length and could be made to fit around the bust and waist and all...... that took forever. i dont get to wear one piece swim suits either (they're not long enough from shoulder to crotch)...... UUUGGGGGGHhhhhh..... any ides would be welcome

I am going to guess that you are in teh US, so I am not sure if the following stores will help (I'm in Canada): Addition-Elle is a plus-size store with plenty of fashions for teens up to career wear and formal dresses, they also have lingerie and bathing suits. Cotton Ginny Plus is more casual, but also has lots of selection. Penningtons Superstore is another plus-sized store with a wide selection including teen - career - lingerie (though they fit strangely sometimes so you need to try everything on). Walmart has a plus size section though I have rarely found anything I like there (things fit funny - a top with enough room to fit my 42DD breasts have sleeves that I can barely get my hand through). That's pretty much the scope of selection for teh larger woman up here... again, I have no idea if these stores are found in teh US, but there are bound to be lots of others.

There was a woman on the board here (sorry, I can't remember her name) who works for a plus-size clothing store (or is it a clothing line?). She actually posted a couple weeks ago some information on what is best to wear, it was really helpful.

Good luck

There is a store owned by Hot Topic in various cities that caters to the younger plus-sized female crowd with trendy and fun clothing, they also have a website. I am older than you and tend to dress conservatively save, a few funky tops here and there, so I buy my clothes at Lane Bryant, but I also shop at Old Navy and a few other places.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I use to use this site, which has a comprehensive list of websites from which you can order plus-size clothes:

They have a special teen section (it sounds like you're in school). Hope maybe this helps.

Stephy,
You are nearly the same size as me, I am also 5'10" tall, and am now 185 (though not officially until Monday) :-) I wear a 14, some 12's... I don't consider your size to be 'plus' size, so I say keep shopping. Hot Topics is one option I know of, otherwise I would check out NewportNews.com and Lerner.com and get their catalogs. They have youthful and trendy clothing, and many come in talls, which you and I need! As for swimsuits, I hear you girl! I have found my favorite swimsuits to be Landsend.com. They have great 2 piece tankini's which are SO cute, and also come in talls. I would go for the size 12-14's if I were you. Check out the measurement/size charts on the websites or catalogs and go by those. That way if your waist is small, but your hips are wider for instance you can determine which way to go. I am about to order my next LandsEnd swimsuit (in a 12!!!!) Try those sites and either check out the clothes on line or get on the catalog lists.

Claire

I also have a hard time finding clothes. I'm only 5'4" but I am to "tall" for petites and to short for average. Anyway, I wear my husbands Levi's. They are a 32 but they are relaxed or loose fit. They fit the best in the rear. The origanal fit just don't cut it. Good Luck
Kim
