hi all. I'm rather new here and was wondering how to begin setting weight goals. I know how much I want to lose, but I don't know how much is reasonable per week, etc. I don't want to get discouraged right out of the starting gate. Anyone...?

Hi Anne,
It is normal to lose between 1-3 pounds a week. Start off slow....drink pleanty of water....you will usually lose more each week in the first month or so then it will taper off a lil. Remember not to jus rely on the scale.....musacle weighs more then fat...so as you start losing fat and gaining muscle the scale may discourage you...remember to measure as often as you weigh...losing inches is jus as important as losing pounds if not more...GOOD-LUCK!!!

Don't get discouraged...pace yourself..don't expect too much too soon, keep your spirits up all times, head up, think how you will be and feel, look, when you lose weight..that always helps me..if you think you are going to cheat on ur diet..think "do i really want this right now?" do i NEED it? how will i feel after i eat this? etc..this way helps me..don't think u are going to lose all the weight you want in a split second. it takes work, but once you start..your closer to being done! :o)

hi and welcome! i was in your position exactly 2 months back...and i've lost 8 pounds along the way.. As a starter, you can read the posts to get a lottt of tips. Drink plenty of water, make small changes in your lifestyle, like taking the stairs, eating fruits and veggies, and introducing small changes in your food intake (dont call it diet, then u'll end up thinking of food the whole day!)
But the biggest lesson I learnt as a newbie...it takes time..just keep going at it, don't be discouraged if the scales or the inches dont seem to budge..remember that whatever u do towards losing weight contributes to your overall health, weight loss is just a fringe benefit! ;-)
good luck!!
