5'5 and near 170 is classified as overweight...dont stress we all carry it differently...if your concerned then try and lose some...i guess by finding this site it was playing on your mind so its up to you and what u feel comfortable with..if your comfy now, forget it, if not then diet and exercise.

I agree with Tammy and Gymmachine. If you feel good, then don't fret about it. Everyone carries their weight differently.

On the other hand, if there are health concerns, I would try to lose some of the weight. I have rheumatoid arthritis (age 35) and feel great at 173, though, I SHOULD get down to my goal weight of 125 (or less) to protect my joints.

Keep us posted and - most importantly - DO IT HEALTHY!!!

I am 5' 3" and would personally be thrilled to weigh what you do, but I have been overweight all of my life. My sister is 5' 4" snd weighs 135lbs. and she thinks that she is huge. This is because her weight always hovered between 95-105 all of her life until she reached her mid-thirties. Like others said, if you are comfortable, don't worry. I will still be considered overweight at my goal (140), but oh well, I won't feel fat. good luck.

That measurement cannot take into consideration your structure. If you have teeny tiny bones or a good sturdy skeleton. Am I right on that assumption?

according to the BMI..for my height, I am to be 180. Just not possible on my bone frame. Also remember there are bodybuilders who are like 240 and in prime shape.

I wouldn't call it "fat," but it is classified as overweight by a pretty good margin. This doesn't necessarily mean you look unattractive, but it does mean you should take a hard look at how the excess weight could affect your health. Not to be alarmist, but any time your BMI is higher than 25--and yours is nearly 28--you start to run a higher risk of weight-related health problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc. Of course, these are risks, not certainties, and there are a lot of other factors which enter in here, such as your general fitness level, age, diet, family history, individual characteristics, etc. It may be that you personally can be healthy at your current weight, but it's definitely something you should discuss with your doctor before you make a final decision on whether or not to lose weight.

I'm 5'5" also and your BMI should be between 127 to 141.. It's been 21 years since I was down to 160 and I can't wait to get back down there. If you're comfortable with your weight then I wouldn't worry too much about it but I'd be careful to not gain anymore.. Have you been maintaining your weight for some time now?

I do think before you freak out you should have your bmi checked by a doctor or other health professional. The calculators can only give an general bmi. In high school I was 5'5 and weighed in @ 160. According to the bmi chart on this site that would make my bmi 27. Well we had a nurse come to my P.E class and measure everyones bmi and I was 22. That is a huge difference. I am an inch taller now, and my goal weight is 160 even though all the 'charts' say I should be 130-150. I will of course have my bmi checked @ 160 by a human just to make sure.

well if you feel and look fit than it's all good, and muscle does weigh more than fat and you may have a large frame and bones. Anyways, good luck on whatever you decideMelanie wrote:
