okay, so i know that many people are saying that the calorie in/calorie out thing is really working...but im not sure what i agree with anymore. I have never been too terribly fond of red meat, so i pretty much stuck to white meat once or twice a day. A couple of weeks ago, i ate some chicken that upset my stomach and have not had the desire to eat meat since then. I usually exercise every day for at least 30 minutes a time, but these past two weeks have been really busy, so no exercising for me. Anyhow, I went two weeks without meat and no exercise and lost 10 pounds. Now when friends tried to help me get back on mean (due to the fact that the restaurant industry...as well as my family...is not very friendly for those who prefer not to eat animals) and in about 4 or 5 days, i could stomach meat once again. but in those 4-5 days, i gained 6 lbs back...so is meatless the way to go, or whats the deal with that?

I have been a vegetarian for about 27 years and I can honestly say that it had no bearing on my weight. I was slim from birth to 16, when I ate meat, and then slim from 16 to 35 as a vegetarian; then I got pregnant. I gained a lot of weight and remained overweight for about 6 years, due to sheer over-eating. I finally lost the excess weight last year by reducing calories all across my diet
While it's true that a pound of tofu has fewer calories than a pound of hamburger, I don't think you should become a vegetarian primarily to lose weight. You may end up disappointed. (I made the decision for personal, ethical reasons--which does not mean that I think people who do eat meat are unethical. Most of my loved ones are meat-eaters.)
If you're happy not eating meat and think it's the way to go, that's great. But do be careful to eat a balanced diet including complete protein (like tofu) and enough iron. It wouldn't hurt to do a little research on the vegetarian diet.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

I know plenty of vegetarians who are overweight! They are that way b/c they subsitute fat for the meat. If you decide to become a vegetarian please don't make the same mistake! Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

Two of my daughters are vegetarians. One is thin, the other excercises about six hours a day, and while she is not fat, she struggles with her weight.
