do you go to bed at a regular time? Sorry, I don't know much about the sleep walking thing, but I can try to tell you what I do know :) It probably isn't very knowledgable, but it's worht a try, yeah?
What I would try to do is get off the junk food first and start eating healthier before you get into a exercise routine. I mean, fish is good, yogurt, nutrition bars, lean meats, FRUITS AND VEGGIES. Hey, I was craving sweets once, and instead I MADE myself go to the fridge and pull out a orange. It was actually mor eof what I wanted in the first place, I just got on a sweet one track mind and once I curbed that, I found out that my favorite fruit is actually oranges, so whenver you feel like you really want sweets, run for a fruit, especially your favorite, it really works.
I picked up another tip and that was if you really were on a craving, carry jolly ranchers with you and whenver you go on this craving, just pop one into your mouth and it should ease the hunger until you find something healthy. You should propbably eat when you're stomach is telling you that you're hungry, because that is a sign from your system, you should always follow you body's signs.
just be extra careful about your food choice and make sure that you're feeeding your body enough GOOD foods. And SLOWLY decrease your caloric intake. SLOWLY. That's about all I know.
I am only 14, so you might want to check with some of the more knowledgable people on tis board, they are all really helpful and very smart peoples!!!
Hope I have helped you some.

First of all, you have to be a little easier on yourself. Insulting yourself is going to get you nowhere. A negative mindset is the LAST thing that you want to have right now. Don't concentrate on your flaws, concentrate on all the positive things you are about to do for your body starting NOW - not tomorrow.......(that always used to be my excuse) and think of all the positive benefits of being fit...which is what you're going to be soon enough...some of these include how it will affect your self esteem, overall emotional AND physical health and you will live longer forsure! You've already taken the first step by seeking help on this message board and I want to help you in every way I can :) Second of all, try to get in a little bit of cardio every day..I know this seems A LOT but studies show that if you exersize on a regular basis, you'll be more likely to keep it up, while leaving a couple days off in a row will throw you off the wagon..all you have to do is make sure you don't over-do it when you exersize...don't go doing an hour of strenuous activity to start off everyday, you'll burn out and quit. What you need to do is start walking for 20 minutes a day...thats really not that much if you consider how much time you probably spend in front of the TV or the computer, right? After a while, you can start speed walking and maybe even going for longer periods of time. The thing about walking is it's an easy cardio exersize for anyone to do, unlike sports or aerobics classes which you may be reluctant to join. Next, don't be afraid about doing strengh training....it won't bulk you up more because pound for pound, a pound of muscle burns more fat than a pound of fat...we all know that, right? Having more muscle INCREASES your metabolism, which is always a plus..but keep in mind that even though replacing fat with muscle will make you a smaller person, your weight may not change as much as it would have if you would leave out the weights..but you'll be smaller and more fit and healthy, and thats what matters...not some stupid number, ok? I don't even weigh myself anymore. I can tell by looking at my body if I'm still in shape and I hate concentrating on numbers because it makes me sagotage my eating plan if i gain half a pound, (even if it's muscle and i look smaller...i used to have an eating disorder - thats why) If you eat more of the high carb, lower fat foods, then you won't have to eat LESS, just DIFFERENT things. I'm really into the "mcdougall" thing and strongly recommend you read "mcdougall's program for maxiumum weight loss". It's helped me wonders, seriously.....and I'm never hungry. :) You can get information on "mcdougalling" on the mcdougall board on vegsource.com and talk to other "mcdougallers". It's really great and if you follow the information I've given you, theres no way you won't succeed and I KNOW that you can do it :)
I hope that helps
Hang in there sweetie, and let me know how this goes for you! :)

Hi Toni. I think it will be best for you to TOTALLY purge your house of the "bad foods" and stock up on the better ones. Eating habits takes time to change, but changing the kind of food you could potentially binge on is a quick thing to do. If all you have in the house is healthy food, at least if you binge, it is on not very fattening stuff - not that binging on any kind of food is good. If you stock up on food that needs prepping and cooking, especially, I doubt you'll end up binging because of the amount of work it needs. And I really have never heard on anyone binging on celery sticks and baby carrots...LOL.
So after replacing the quality of food around you, lets' talk about quantity. Why do you think you overeat? Emotional eating aside, a lot of people overeat just because they 1) have bad eating habits (skips meals, eat meals on the go ), 2)do not drink enough water (you'll be surprised how many people think they are hungry when what they are is dehydrated) and 3) eat low quality foods so the body ends up lacking essential nutrients.
For eating habits, never skip a meal - especially breakfast. For a healthy weight loss/maintenance eating smaller meals every 3 hours is optimal. Because the body never gets hungry, it will have a lesser tendency to binge (which really is commonly a result of actual hunger and prolonged deprivation). I myself eat 6 meals a day, 1400 calories/day total. Later on, you will have to somehow watch your totoal calorie intake, but for now learning to eat the right kind of food, on schedule should be the focus.
Skip the soda altogether and make a conscious effort to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I usually start my day with 2 glasses, drink 4 glasses at the gym (I work out almost daily for about an hour), drink another 2 glasses with every meal and before I go to bed. Of course, the trips to the bathroom gets to be inconvenient at time, but its all worth it.
Take a multivitamin daily and eat more nutritious foods. A lot of people are probably just deficient in one nutrient - zinc, for example - but the body interpretes it as hunger for food in general. You will also need vitamins and minerals to get you to have more energy and have efficint burning during exercise.
Melissa's suggestions on the daily, small doses of exercises are ideal, I think.
Hope this helps.
