Yesterday, I posted that I am going to start exercising since I seem to be stuck at this plateau. Those 130's are calling for me but i haven't been able to get there.
Anyhow, I am curious to know, how many of you exercise along with you diet and how many of you don't. AND (as someone posted yesterday) is there a point in losing weight that you can't lose anymore without exercise?
Also, what exercises do you recommmend for someone who hates doing them?
Thanks for all of your responses in advance!
Julie :)

1) I do about 3 miles five times a week walking.
2) Yes, there kinda is a point..what I mean by kinda is eventually you will get to the point that your calorie intake can only be dropped so much without risking your health. The general number is 1200 a day. What you want is to work out cause you will burn more calories to optimize your weight loss.
3) kinda hard to say. Go with activities that don't seem like exercise..like swimming

Hi Julie! I've been going to the gym 6 days/week for the last 3 weeks (not long, I know but hey, it's better than being a couch potato!) I do my weight training on Monday/Wednesday/Friday w/some cardio built in. On Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday, I do 45-60 minutes of either the treadmill at an incline or the elliptical machine with some resistance. It's not been easy and I felt really worn out last night but it seems to be the only thing that works for me.
Not only will the exercise help you lose weight, it will improve you cardiovascularly and maybe make you more toned.
I bought a portable CD player so I can listen to disco or dance music while doing my cardio. An hour on a treadmill gets extremely boring after a while so that helps.
I would LOVE it if someone taught a dance or dance choreography class, for me that would be ideal but unfortunately no one here does ;)
Best of luck to you and big hugs!
Dawn

I exercise and diet. I find that walking is great and I was jogging until my knees started to go weird on me (I need to get that checked out). I also love my pilates tapes. I have found that the toning is making major changes to my shape and I feel really good because of my improved cario and toneness. Good luck to you as you start to find some exercise program that will work for you.
Since you hate exercising, the idea of dancing or swimming are great alternatives.

I do both. I am doing circuit weight training now and I hope it is going to speed up my weight loss some. If not, I am going to find a gun and................well, I'm not to that point YET, but LOL................I can always lose 18 pounds with no problems, then I stay there........I usually stop doing the plan and gain all back plus more, but THIS time I am not giving up!!!!!!!! I will get past this soon........Woo HOO!!

I do alot of walking - do 6 to 7 miles a day (7 days a week)...so far have loss a total of 2 pounds a week. Walking is totally easy...just need your tennis shoes and go. I also watch what I eat....very hard to do when I love to eat junk food. Oh well! at least I am getting skinny.

I lost my first 70 pounds without any exercise at all. As long as you eat little enough to maintain a calorie deficit, you do not need to exercise at all to lose weight. However, I don't recommend that method; there are just too many well-documented benefits of regular exercise as far as your general health goes, and of course it hastens your weight loss. The problem is that when your weight gets down to a certain point, it's harder to establish a big calorie deficit and still maintain your health, because the lower your body weight, the fewer calories you burn. Most people can go down as far as 1000 calories a day IF they are in good health and IF their doctor approves (the general advice for women is to stay at 1200 unless you get your doctor's ok--I think it's 1500 for men), but that is not much food, and is hard to do. So when you get to a lower weight, you can still lose weight through diet alone, but not as much, because any reasonable calorie deficit will necessarily be smaller. So at that point, the only healthy way to increase your calorie deficit is to exercise.
I detest working out, even though I know it would be good for my health. I mean, I really, really, detest it. In fact, the only exercise I can tolerate is walking, so that's what I do. I vary the places I walk and the routes I take, to keep from getting bored. If you walk fast enough and far enough, you can burn a lot of calories and get some aerobic benefits. Maybe not to the same level as a full cardio and strength training workout would give you, but definitely better than nothing, and the prevailing scientific wisdom right now is that for general health purposes, a lot of brisk walking (30 minutes or more most days) is enough to give you sufficient cardiovascular and other health benefits.

I just started curcuit weight training every Tues, Thurs, and Sat. I am trying to get in as much cardio as I can on my off days.

I do both too. Cardio at least 3 times/ week and weights 3 times/week. I find the best thing for people to exercise if they don't like it, is to find someone else to go too. Go to classes together (deep water aroebics are fun, power yoga, etc) or join a training group (I trained with a half marathon clinic and absolutely loved it).
Not sure about the weight loss and exercise question (ie. if you can only lose so much w/o exercise).

Miranda,
I definitely fall into your boat. I hate exercise, it doesn't give me that "high". Actually i think it makes me grumpier....lol. I will increase my walking to brisk walking like you do and see how that works for me! Thanks !!

We definitely feel alike on this subject. I hate "traditional" working out to the point that I have decided that I am going to choose the long term health drawbacks that may or may not result from lack of vigorous workouts. Yeah, maybe I'll live a few months less (and according to the studies I've seen, that's all it averages out to), and have decreased muscle strength in my old age, but I figure I'll just do what I do now when I need some muscle--hire someone to do the work for me.
I know what you mean about not getting the "high" some people talk about--I never get it, no matter how strenuous the activity; the only thing I ever feel when an exercise session is ended is more righteous. I'm learning to be content with that . . . .

Exercise is a must! Even if you didn't lose weight (which you definitely will), you will improve your mood, sleeping habits, concentration, and fitness level. I would go down to Sears or Sports Authority and try out a couple of different cardio machines. Bring one home, plop it permanently in front of the tv, and work out at night while you watch your favorite shows.
