I was backing out of my parking spot at the mall today. I looked both ways even though it was a single direction row. I then proceeded to look carfully over my right shoulder to make sure that no one came up the lane as I was backing out (my sight was impaired by the van parked next to me). Well, I saw it was clear and looked to my left and saw a car at my bumper. I immediately stopped and pulled forward. The man told me that I'd hit his car. He had been driving the wrong way down the isle. I didn't feel a bump. He had a big dent in the front quarter panel and a bing dent on the rear drivers side door. He said that the car was only two weeks old. Anyway, as luck would have it I had just changed insurance carriers and had not taken the time to put the new paperwork in the car. So, I took his number and he took mine so that we could call and exchange insurance info. I gave him my cell number. When I called, he suggested that I pay his deductable rather than turning it into my insurance. I told him that I'd rather turn it in. He then said that he'd have to call me back because he was driving and couldn't write down the info. Needless to say, he never called back. I called a friend of ours who is a police officer. His first concern was that I may have given this man my home phone or address. His advice was to always call the police if you're in a questionable accident. They may not come to a parking lot accident, but if the person is trying to pull a scam, they are more likely to leave. Next, make sure to never give out your home phone or address. This opens you up for later burglary. Be careful out there.

I am so glad you are safe and you wrote it here. I have never been in an accident and glad to know not to ever give out my home address & phone number. Thank you so much for the warning.
