ok, as if I'm not in bad enough shape (torn calf muscle right leg in August, broken toe October that wasn't diagnosed until December, knee injury *see post below*) Now I have a really tight knot or something in my left calf muscle, for the last two weeks. When I tore my right calf muscle last year it was preceeded by 2 or 3 weeks of tight muscle cramp or knot exactly like i'm experiencing on the other leg currently. I have stretched, and stretched as much as I can stand to, trying to get this muscle loosened or lengthened. I am soooooo afraid I'm going to end up ripping this calf muscle just like I did the other one. The amazing thing is now that the right leg is healed, it feels so much better, not like it's tight all the time. The right leg injury happened just from a short little run to jump off a dock into the lake. I think I almost ripped it this morning in step class, *even though my knee on the same leg is causing me much agony too* (see post below) :-)
so if anyone has any advice on stretching or lengthening my calf muscle, I'd appreciat it....
I am trying so hard to reach my goal, but it seems like my effort keeps getting sabotaged by injury!!

ps, out of 10 holiday pounds gained, due to missing 2 weeks of work outs, I"ve gotten rid 5 of them!!

Mel,
First and foremost...a big congrats on removing the 5 pounds--super job!
Sorry to hear about all your leg and knee problems. Hope you can get them all fixed up and under control soon.
One thing that jumped out at me from your posts in connection with your problems was the "Step Aerobics Classes" you keep mentioning. That's those classes where they leap up and down on the elevated platforms on the floor...right? My suggestion is that you re-think your aerobics workouts in lieu of all your calf and knee problems.
I know you probably enjoy the fun and social aspects of the group in the Step Classes--but you've gotta think about the stress and strain that type of exercise is putting on your already injured knees and legs. First, if you haven't already, I'd dispense with "step" and maybe just go through the motions without it. If that is still a problem, you may want to change your cardio workout to something less stressful on the joints, such as swimming, eliptical or walking to give your injuries time to heal and your body a chance to remove more weight.
I personally discounted any type of "step" aerobics because, First: I'm old; and Second: My knees are old. I do "Walk Away the Pounds" videos for my cardio and work up a really good sweat without doing damage to my knees, hips or legs.
