WOO HOO...your muscles are getting bigger, and you are slimming down! Good for you. Don't be discouraged, that is the way it is supposed to be. See if you can get your measurements done...and start keeping track of inches too. I am sure you will be SUPRISED at how great you are doing! :O)
Keep up the good work...

I would say yes, only because I don't drink any soda at all...and then it is only an occasional diet 'anything'. With the amount of sports that you are involved in, I think you need to bump up your water intake. You would be amazed at what it does for your ENTIRE body. Your skin will start to look clearer too! Also, try and eat fresh fruits and vegetables when you can. Don't be afraid to bust out carrot sticks...and apples to snack on! I think you are going to continue to do fine.
REMEMBER DRINK LOTS OF WATER :O)

It is possible, indeed to be slimming down and still gain a little weight. My husband lost 80 lbs. (from 270 to 190 lbs.), and seems to be stuck there for a couple of months (which is fine, because at his height of 6 feet, he's got a normal BMI already). At the same time though, the suits we got him last June now badly needs taking in at the waist. He went down from a 34 to a 30-32 waist without losing any more weight. He does heavy duty weight-lifting, watches his diet closely to include sufficient protein for body building, and therefore we ascribe this stagnant weight but smaller waistline to muscle gain.
Some of the weight you gained is indeed probably muscle. Although I'm not really sure that one can gain that much weight in muscle in just a couple of months, especially if you're not religiously following a weight training program and a body-building diet. If you have not changed your diet and you've traded in your regular running for football practice, you might really be gaining fat. See, there's a difference between running, where you have sustained increased heart rate, and football practice where its spurts of high activity with frequent periods of relative rest in between. For efficient calorie burn, you need to have a true aerobic kind of exercise. Of course, football practice burns calories, but probably not as efficiently as your regular running, and therefore you end up gaining weight.
As for your diet, drinking one's calories is not a good idea at all since you get all those calories without feeling full. Therefore sodas are technically a no-no if you want to lose weight. Two liters of soda is about 800-900 calories - you'd be lucky to burn that much calories with two hours of football practice. And are you really just drinking two liters of soda, and only munching on a small bag of chips ( about thirty small pieces of chips, 210 - 230 calories) a week? A lot of people get surprised at how much they underestimate their food intake once they really take the time to list them down.

in my opinion it isnt muscle gain, muscle is created by overload, typically via weight training and even then it takes around 4 weeks for muscles to START to grow..and thats very dependent on you to feed your muscle alot of protein to actually grow...perhaps its water retention from doing all that football practice because your not drinking enough water?..i dunno do u weight train?if u do it could be the addition of a little mass but muscle doesnt come on as easy as people think..it litterally takes years to get that killer six pack...well not for some i guess but it does take a long time

I would say it's possible at 15. Your body goes through so many changes at that age, you'd be surprised what happens. I grew like 5 inches over a summer when I was that age. I was in football practice, and my knees were killing me. I thought I was just hurting from practice. I did all sorts of things from adding extra supports in my shoes, to wraps, but nothing worked! My mom took me to the doctor for a physical, and she told the doctor what I'd been saying. He did x-rays, and discovered I had Osgood Schlatters disease. Basically that's when you have a huge growth spurt that's too fast for your body. Needless to say, I couldn't do any sports for a year. I wouldn't say you gained fat either, football practice is a lot more demanding than some realize, even in high school. The idea of burning less calories from running in spurts versus constant running is not true. In football, you are usually running at max speed for those spurts. If you read anything today, you will see that for cardio, interval training is what is recommended for burning more calories. You burn less while doing the actual exercise, but you burn more calories after as a whole! Example cardio (treadmill) routine from Mens Health Mag:Warm up for 5 minutes increasing your speed to 50% max by the end of 5 min. At 5 minutes, increase your speed to 100% max for 15 seconds, then slow down to 50% max for 2 minutes. Do this for 6-10 reps. Isn't this like football to a degree. If you are concerned with losing weight, I would just cut out the soda, and chips. I think if you want to reward yourself, and eat those things moderately once on the weekend, you'd be okay. I find if you don't do that, you are less likely to be successful. Also, like others said, drink lots of water!
