I just did a quick search on the web and here is a web page that came up -
http://www.cheshire-med.com/services/dietary/nutrinew/moviesJH.html
......and here is some of what they had to say about it -
What’s going to the movies without getting popcorn and soda? Well, it’s definitely less stress to the heart. Movie theater popcorn is usually popped in coconut oil, so even without adding the "butter-flavored topping," it is still very high in fat and calories. Coconut oil is 86 percent saturated fat, which is the fat that raises cholesterol. Add the butter-flavored topping, and you add trans fat to the mix, which is also a fat that raises cholesterol.
When tested for fat content, the smallest tub of popcorn (kid’s size) was found to pack on 20 grams of fat, 14 of them saturated; this accounts for almost 75 percent of the recommended amount of fat for the entire day. A large popcorn has roughly 80 grams of fat, 50 or more grams saturated. And that is without the butter-flavored topping! Add the topping, and you are up to about 130 grams of fat, which equals almost 4 days worth of recommended amount of saturated fat. Remember that your theater popcorn could contain more fat, due to size differences and oil or shortening differences.
(end of copy)
....so maybe you could pop some low-fat Healthy-Choice microwave popcorn instead :-)

Basically, and in general, movie theatre popcorn is about 50-60 calories per cup....and a cup is pretty small when measuring popcorn...so if you need/want to have some movie popcorn...just be aware of your portions...thats the only way to enjoy cheat foods without suffering consequences....
And as Gary said...maybe just bring along some of your own...in a big bag!!! I find by adding the flavouring, there really isn't a big difference in the taste....
Where are you from synchromom? I thought the Matrix came out like 2 years ago??

Hi!
I once read an article that said, eating just one medium buttered bag of theatre popcorn is equivalent to eating 5 big macs! Who knows how true that is... but after reading that article, I've never looked at theatre popcorn the same way again.
Warmly,
John

RIGHT...sorry I guess i'm not up on my sequels synchro....
Have fun...have you decided on the popcorn dilema.... ????
and just my 2 cents...I totally know what you mean about popcorn and the movies...I LOVE eating during movies and it just seems necessary to have that bag of popcorn right there....sometimes i actually get in a bad mood if I know I can't have a treat when I'm watching the movie!!! How silly am i???
