did anyone watch "the view" today,
they had a discussion on diet pills and if they worked or not(they concluded it was not a long term solution), but what i found interesting was that they showed this product from europe (it will be available in the U.S. shortly) i dont recall the name but its this pill you take 30 min. before eating, and in your stomach it expands into a little sponge and makes you feel full, its made out of naturale fibers and it gets digested with the rest of the food you eat.
it's mainly used to control portion size, so i was wondering what you think about it.

But if you dont swallow those pills with enough water they can expand in your throat and choke you to death!!! Be careful...

I'm always very very wary of new things that promise shortcuts. Who knows but that they'll find a couple of years down the road that the sponges were carcinogenic or that fragments stayed in the intestines and wreaked havoc with digestion.

Losing weight isn't easy but it's possible and we all know how to do it. My philosophy is that it's better to stick with the tried and true. Remember fenphen?

There are pills like that out already. Basically citramax acts as "sponge" and can be found in many products over the counter.

There is no real shortcut to losing weight and maintaining it. It takes hard work & exercise - the only true way. And it has to be a lifetime committment, not just something you do for awhile.

Why use a sponge, why not just cut those portions in half. This is just another attempt of some company to sepearte those of us who need/want to lose weight from our money. I honestly believe things like this don't force people to learn how to change their lives in order to become healthy...it's merely a band-aid...and once those little sponges aren't in the tummy, then what?

I beg to differ on this one Kel. In the beginning I was having a hard time adjusting to the reduced portion size of my meals. I started taking pills like Dexatrim to help curb my appetite and they really help. I remember reading somewhere that when a person overeats, their stomach tends to stretch per se. After reducing what you eat, you stomach shrinks in size b/c it no longer has to be force to consume these super size portions. I think this is true b/c I no longer have to take the pills to curb my appetite. In the beginning, if I went without the pills, I would literally be starving all day long. Now that I have grown accustom to smaller portions, I no longer have these problems.

I agree with Melve, I have been taking Dexatrim Natural w/o Ephedrine and it seems to help me with portion size (and it doesn't keep me up or make me shakey). Before this my problem wasn't eating properly, it was eating to much. Now I measure my food out and with the Dexatrim I'm not hungry after the meal. I also have been cutting back on them. I usually only take it once a day and it helps me all day. Hopefully soon I won't take them anymore and not be hungry.

I was thinking about the whole stomach thing just today & wondered if your stomach shrinking was true or not. If anyone has any further information I would be interested in hearing.

It's kind of true, but not really; your stomach expands when it has a lot of food in it, but never shrinks below it's normal size when the food passes through, even if you habitually eat less. I would have sworn my stomach shrank when I stopped overeating, but every reliable thing I've heard is that it's all psychological; you just get used to being satisfied with eating less.

I'll take it either way, even if I have to "trick" my brain - ha ha. Thanks for the info though!

I too felt that my stomach had "shrunk" because I can no longer eat the portion sizes I used to. I don't criticise people who need that kickstart of taking Dexatrim or something else, but in my case it only took a couple of days of feeling deprived before I felt a real difference in my intake tolerance.

Just a suggestion for someone considering the question: it can be very easy to feel fuller just by reducing portions on a regular basis without taking a drug. I'm glad that it works for some people, but I worry that others might become dependent.

Just take care, everyone. :-)

Melve~ Thanks for your comments. I can see how things like this can be useful. I just worry about those who try everything that comes down the pipeline and become disenchanted or short of money from buying these things. I remember years ago I flushed (literally) $150 down the toilet when I bought some Herbalife stuff.

I don't know how much Dexatrime is selling for, but for myself, I'd rather use the $1 to buy a cup of coffee at the deli on my way up to the office in the morning. ;o)

Oh believe me I understand!!! I was one of those people that bought it all Metabolife, Hollywood 48 diet and anything that had a money back guarantee. I have since learned that the only thing that works is diet and exercise. Dexatrim really does works for short term use and it's only ~ $5. It's not a bad investment especially if you're like me and have to eat everything on your plate to avoid wasting money. :-)

$5 isn't bad. I think the whole money-back guarantee thing is such a fraud. They guarantee it, because most people will be too ashamed that it didnt' work and they won't ask for it back. I wound up flushing those stupid Herbalife pills, they made me feel jittery, and I dumped the shake mix -- Lord that stuff was gross.

I used to eat my entire plate of food just to avoid wasting food LOL...for the past few months, I've just started divvying things up and making two meals out of one plate of food. It's helped me save money, because I don't have to worry about making lunches for work frequently, and it keeps me from going out to eat. :O)
