Hey-
I was wondering, I just graduated from my middle school today, and I am starting my summer today too! (Isn't that cool?) I was just wondering, over a time period about 3 months, is it possible for a younger adult to lose 25 or 30 pounds? Or will it take longer than that. Just wodnering because wanted to get into shape before school started again.
Thanks a lot
Jen-B.

It will be difficult, but it can be done. You just have to stick to your diet. I am also trying to lose weight over the summer, which is hard, but I am determined to do it. You should exersice every day (preferably in the morning) for at least 30 min. Then you should eat a light breakfast, lunch, and dinner (all around 300 calories) and then a few snacks. You should probably try and consume around 1200 calories a day. That way, you will be losing 2 pounds per week, which will be almost 25 pounds over the summer (plus you may lose about 5 pounds water weight when you start you diet). Tell me if you think this diet/exercise will be to hard for you to stick to, and I'll try and help you with that.

Jen-Bee-
Everyone's different so its really hard to say. But you do have enough time to work at a healthy and realistic weight loss goal of 1-2 lbs. week.
At any rate, you may or may not reach your goal of 25-30 lb weight loss by the start of school, but if you keep at it, you'll definitely be thinner than you are now. As you will see, even a mere 5-10 lb weight loss can make a lot of difference in terms of appearance.
The most important thing though is to start NOW and to keep at it. The process does take time to adjust to and can be testy at times, so delaying will have to be the biggest setback you can have now.
Goodluck.

Hi Jen-Bee,
It depends on how much you weigh now. The less you weigh, the harder it is to lose additional pounds since your body burns fewer calories. The more your body weighs, the more calories (energy) it burns. So if you are really overweight and go on a low-calorie diet, you can lose a lot of weight in a relatively short time since your body won't get all the calories that it requires from food, so it will burn the fat (stored energy).
If ALL you have to lose to get to your ideal weight is 30 lbs, you don't weight too much and your body does not require too many calories. So even on a low-calorie diet, the caloric deficit (the difference of what your body needs to maintains its weight and the amount of calories you eat) will not be large enough to burn a lot of fat quickly. Don't think you can lose a lot of weight quickly by eating too little - if you consume below 1200 a day, your body goes in a starvation mode and tries to preserve the fat.
If you start eating healthy consistently, you will DEFINATELY lose weight. The healthy way to lose weight is by doing is slowly and incorporating permanent changes into your lifestyle. Regardless of whether you lose 10 lbs or 30 lbs by the end of the summer, you will look better and feel better - it is so worth it! The sooner you start, the sooner you'll start seeing results.
Good luck!
Melanie

Hey there! Thank you so much for the help (again) You guys are truly helping me out!!
Oh, thanks Charlene, nah I won't have difficulty staying on a caloric diet of 1200 calories. No problem, I hope. And exercsing every day, that might be the prob. I can only excercise 6 days a week. Sunday or Saturday (they switch off) are my really busy days. But I think I could sacrifice some time to get ONE of those days in, making it 6 times a week. Yeah, ok. Graet.
300 calories in each main meal? What kinds of things do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Just getting some ideas. Thanks for all of your help. Everyone.

Your body needs rest in between work outs to work properly so you should aim for cardio work outs 4-5x per week to start....If you exercise to much to fast you`ll burn out....you could include sat or sun as part of one of your days to exercise but if you are already doing a quite active job for the day don`t stress over it....
