- stupid question

so you know that rule of thumb, no eating after 8... or 7 or something. well what time are you supposed to go to bed under that rule. like if you go to bed at 9 or like me, not until after 12, i would think that the time would be different right? or i guess, the real question is, how many hours before i hit the sack should last meal (or last snack) be????

I've heard that you should not eat within 3 hours of when you go to bed, but I would also think that depends on precisely how active you are between when you eat your last meal, and when you go to bed. Just a guess though.

thanks! yeah not too active in the nighttime ... in fact it's when i'm least active is when i'm most tempted to grab something. when i'm busy, i usually don't think about food and have an easier time going without it after dinner. thanks though.

I have learned that food takes at least 5 hours to properly digest in your system and if you eat b4 you go to sleep then it just turns into fat.

Ok, I've heard it's at least 2 to three hours before bedtime. I've also heard that our bodies begin to ready themselves for sleep in the evening by slowing down the metabolism...I think it's a biological/nocturnal thing.

Depends on activity level I believe...I usually eat diner around 4pm because the entire family has a busy after diner schedule on most weedays so usually don`t eat anything between 4pm and my karate class at 8 pm so by the time I finish an 1 hr of karate that I would consider intense activity level, I have to eat something if I want to be able to sleep so usually around 9:30pm I`ll have a snack that is around 200 calories, keep it low-fat and something preferbly protein such as chickpeas that I eat out of the can(1/2 cup at the post) as if they were nuts...Sometimes though I`ll come home and my hubby has gone thru the trouble of making a veggie and cheese tray so I`ll have small portions of that...My view on that is too keep it lower fat and healthy and don`t offend hubby if he made something nice!!! :) G.

You eat DINNER around 4pm? LOL. I eat LUNCH around 3pm... oh well.
I'm not saying one is better than the other but this way I eat dinner around 7- 7:30 pm and am done for the day... :)

calories...it doesnt matter when you eat...you will still lose weight if u have a meal that contains 400 cals for example, go to bed and still be in a deficit for the day...it doesnt matter at all...the whole dont eat before u go to bed doesnt mean much because thats not the factor in weight loss...its how many cals u eat for the day including dinner....and if u eat a meal then go to bed guess what...you still burn cals while u sleep...it doesnt turn to fat or anything like that it is an old expelled myth...the only thing that matters is calories in vs calories out...frank is a good example...whilst he eats one meal a day (not the best way to do it lol) he is still losing weight isnt he? because hes using more calories than hes eating....so dont stress..i eat and go to bed and still lose weight too...infaact a high fibre meal at dinner is great!

I don't get home until 5:30 and finish cardio and lifting until 7:30. It is usually 8:00 by the time I get dinner. Since I get up at 4:00 in the morning, I am in bed by 9:30. I have been worried about eating too close to bedtime, but I just can't eat before I work out.

It is good to know that my evening meal isn't magically turning to fat as I sleep!

Lol, That`s because my kids start school at 8:15am, eat lunch at 11:30am and come home startving, we leave the house by 5:30 pm on most evening for karate classes and the kids don`t come home until 8pm at which time they have a snack. I don`t come home until after 9pm...It has been a routine established years ago cause I use to have the kids ready (breakfast and all)by 6:15am, so that I could drive them to a sitter and be at work for 7am, because of break rotation quite often my lunch break would be at 10:30am, so early diner was a must!!!!...

Well, there are conflicting opinions on that.... I usually don't worry about it provided that I've had my daily exercise to offset what I eat in the evening. On the other hand, some people say that not eating after 6 pm is the best.... it's hard to say really. Either way, in the evening I'd be careful about how many carbs you consume... because you're less active in the evening and not as likely to burn up the extra energy in the carbs. Just an opinion though, I could be wrong.
