Hi everyone,

I just found this site and I too am once again climbing on the horse named Healthier Lifestyle and Weightloss. You know even when I decided to begin again my inner person was complaining about being in this place again. But you know what, after finding this site I find it a blessing that I don't have to begin again all alone. I loved the articles and they inspired me to improve on some of my workout habits. Not to mention simply hanging in there. I need to lose at least 70 pounds and to be perfectly honest I have no clue how, or if I really want to because I find myself pretty attractive now. But to be healthier I know I have to. I'm an African American woman and have always grown up with a positive body image. I like being "thick" or a 'brickhouse' and my husband loves the big boobs, but I am overweight and need a change. I look forward to your encouragement even when I think l'm too cute for myself. I need to do this purely for the health of it, please support me through it all. Thankyou

Believe me...I understand what you mean. Before having my son a year and a half ago, I was 20 pounds overweight and didn't sweat it too much. When I started this weightloss journey I was 42 pounds overweight. Now four months into this journey, I have 27 pounds more to lose. I think I would be a little closer to goal had I not taken a "holiday break". Now that the holidays are over, I am back and focused now more than ever to achieve my goals. I have been keeping my calories around 1200 a day while doing cardio on my elliptical Mon, Wed & Fridays and weight training on Tues & Thurs. I think the key is is to have your mind set to do this. Many times I have tried to "eat right" just to go back to my old habit. My main pitfall was my obsession with junk and how I hated vegetables. So on the weekends, I have one cheat meal a day (Saturday & Sunday). I hope this gives you some insights and good luck on your journey.

Part of a healthy lifestyle I believe, is a positive attitude...
You seem to have a great attitude that would help you greatly when times are hard...I am french canadian and grew up on big servings of mashed potatoes, gravy, fatty meats, more gravy, fatty baked goods, more gravy, tones of filling breads and stuff cause there was 10 of us in the family and more gravy LOL...When my grandma would see me overweight she would say "you look good you`ve gain some weight" and she actually meant that I look good because to her if you were chubby you were healthy...skinny people had to be sick or fragile as she would say....Well I would be considered plenty healthy by her standards....The truth isthat doctors don`t feel the same and my body is telling me it`s tired of carrying the excess weight....Anyway making chnges that you can live with is most important...Decrease calorie intakes by about 500 calories a day at first and increase your activity level a bit and you will start seeing changes...You won`t feel deprived if you start with the -500 calories and when you start to feel better you can adjust it to a better number..Hope this helps ..Ghislaine

Hi Robin

I too found myself wanting to be healthier and have lost about 50 lbs in the last 7 months. My trick mostly was walking & walking and walking some more. Instead of getting in the car and driving to where I want to go I walk. I eat a lot of vegetables especially brocolli, very little sugar - no fries, very little bread but whole wheat when I do, no donuts, cakes, chips or snacks.
I would like to lose maybe l0 more lbs, but could quite easily live with the weight I am. My size l0 pants are now too big - and that was my goal. Good luck to you - you'll feel much better about yourself like I do.
