O.K. I had a fantastic start to the New Year...Didn`t binge even for the few days preceding Tom and then wham last night started binging(in moderate way but still overdoing it!) same today, I did not keep my food journal! We had a gas fireplace installed thursday cause it was a necessity since our den is in the basement of a L shape bungalow and also our bedroom being at the front part of the L, has 3 outside walls (BRRRRRRRRRR........) So now the fireplace is under our bedroom which helps ...Why am I stressed? Well we are doing the mantel ourself because after paying for the fireplace our budget is depleted! The thing is, I married someone like Bill Cosby when it comes to renovation...Being the daughter of a general contractor I do know the differance and without insulting him, I do know when he is on a wrong path!!! We have done a lot of DIY since we moved into this house and although I`m not afraid of a challenge, I would like to built something nice and have people wounder just how expensif that nice mantel was without them guessing that we attempted to make do.. For example , I have been waiting 7 years for the installation of baseboards in our bedroom!!! They are sitting under our bed waiting to be nailed to the wall!!!! When I ask when he`ll do it, he tells me I don`t understand what`s involved!!! What`s involved is a hammer and some nails!!! Anyhoo , I would rather see the bare unit sitting there for months then to do a mantel without some plan(which is what dear hubby has in mind to do!!Yikes) so I am stressed over it, and maybe I sound a tad too materialistic but I need to mention the fact that it is usually my elbow grease that does the painting and ect...Even tackled plumbing, wirng, but now feel that I must draw the line somewhere!!! G
Thanks for letting me vent and tomorrow thefirst thing I do will be to bring out my journal....G

LOL....I do see the humor in things like that, I just get quite frustrated at times about it...In the field of work he does for a living he is awesome...And he does honestly believe that a little carpenter lives in him....Yikes! Anyway I know that in the time it will take for him to get started I will find some instructions and info and my frustration also come from the fact that information on building your own gas fireplace mantel and surround is so hard to find no matter where we look!
Anyhoo I got this am, made breakfast of scramble eggs , hashbrown and toasts(week end breakfast), broke 1/4 off the pc of toast after eating the eggs and decided that I wasn`t hungry and just put it in the garbage..So I had very good portion at breakfast and just finished 40 minutes of snow shoveling...G

Hey G...
This too will pass. I only wish I were there so I could build the mantle and install the baseboards. Oh, you'd have enormous faith in me, and they'd come just as if your husband did them, but you'd overlook my shortcomings cause you're polite.
And you don't just hammer the baseboards, you have to miter the corners. Lots of guys are scared of miter cuts. Get him a new miter chop saw and he'll be dying to use it. That's what we did and now we have crown molding and base boards everywhere. I like the saw so much I'm thinking of installing crown molding in the garage.
One time (long ago) a buddy of mine and I were drinking a bit. and my wife started complaining about her kitchen counters. My friend insisted he'd "done lot's of Kitchens" and so, knowing I'd have his advice, we started ripping out counters.
He came by and "coached" for a couple of weekends and everytime I'd get stuck I'd ask his advice. He'd always ask what I thought I should do and the tell me that it sounded right to him. This went on until I was absolutley stuck with no idea as to what to do. When I insisted that he tell me what to do, he told me he had no idea how to finish the project.
I aked him why he said he'd "done lots of kitchens" and he told me it was because he's wallpapered lots of kitchens. The flaw is still there in the counter and nobody has ever noticed it, and my wife still loves her counters.
Eric
I intend to live forever.....So far so good!
