I am still yet a teenager but I would really like to lose some weight on my stomach and thighs. I am about 10 pounds over weight but I really want a flat stomach and skinnier thighs. I don't know where to start or how to lose that weight, so I could use some advice please. Thanks.

Hi Staci,
There is no way to target specific body areas for fat loss. In order to lose weight on your stomach and thighs, you have to lose weight in general.
As you lose weight, the fat on your stomach and thighs will come off too.
The only way to lose weight is by eating healthier and exercising more. It always comes down to reducing your total calories.
Try drinking water instead of soft drinks, cutting down on red meat and eating skinless chicken breast instead, lean ground turkey instead of ground beef, eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Avoid fried foods and cream sauces. Choose things that are steamed or baked. Learn how to cook low-fat - buy a cookbook with low-fat recipes and just follow them. Avoid eating at restaurants. If you have to eat at a restaurant, make sensible choices from the menu, and only eat half of the portion - restaurant portions are usually huge.
Try exercising - cardio such as walking, running, aerobics to burn fat, and some resistance training to increase lean muscle mass.

Hi,
My kids are only 6, and growing like weeds, so their dietary needs are still "little kid" in nature. Since you're a teen ager, you may not have stoped growing (upwards) yet, so you need to eat enough calories to fuel that growth. I would try to get more exercise by walking or riding a bike (with friends since it's not completely safe anynore for teenage girls to walk or bike alone.) In addition, that bit of excess weight you have would probably respond to small changes in your diet...cut out some sugary or salty or fatty snacks, whatever it is you snack on when you're hungry (things like potato chips, cookies, chocolate, candy bars, twinkies, french fries) and try eating a small bowl of cereal if you ahve to have something sweet, or eat some carrot sticks or celery sticks if you like those, or a small apple or orange, or a rice cake with a litle smear of jam om it, or a small glass of milk. If you drop just 100 calories a day by eating healthy snacks instead of sweet/fatty things, you would lost 10 pounds over the course of a year, in a healthy way! It's a long time since i was a teenager, however, and you should get a more expert opinion! There are a couple of web sites I know of that have info for teenagers who want to eat a more healthy diet, so let me know if you want the web addresses of those. Best wishes to you...have a great day, Dee
