Welcome Jessica !

I have not been here that long and everyone has been very helpful !

Rather than those fad diets, just keep under a certain calorie limit each day,
and make sure the calories you do eat are low-fat calories,
and watch the labels at the grocery store because something that might
be advertised as low-fat might still have too many calories from sugar and other ingredients.

If you eat less calories per day than what you use, then you will lose weight !

Usually a combination of diet and exercise will help it come off faster.

Just make sure to eat enough healthy foods to get all the proper nutrients
and iron, and don't go lower than 1200 calories a day, and as always,
you should check with your doctor before going on a serious weight loss program.

And stay encouraged, when you read how much weight some on this board have lost then it encourages you that you can do it too !

Wishing you success !

Gary

...in case you didn't read it on another thread -

Here are some sandwich and other receipes and tips:

A low-fat low-calorie lunch I have been having recently:

2 slices reduced calorie bread = 80 calories (40 calories per slice)
2 slices fat-free bologna = 40 calories
1 slice fat-free cheese = 25 calories
deli style mustard = 0 calories
(regular and other types of mustard I've seen all have 0 calories :-)

Total calories for that low-fat sandwich = just 145 calories !

Once in a while I might opt for the above but with fat-free mayo
instead of mustard and that just adds about 40 calories for 2 tablespoons,
and it's not much more calories to add lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.
(I have been reluctant to get pickles because they have such a high sodium content, I wonder if there are any low-sodium pickles on the market)

Another sandwich idea is:

2 slices reduced calorie bread (or toast) = 80 calories
3 oz albacore tuna (packed in water, not oil) = 75 calories
2 tablespoons fat-free mayo = 40 calories
You can add a tablespoon of chopped onion and dill relish
to the receipe and it should not add much calories.
Also you can add lettuce and tomato on top the tuna in the sandwich
and that should not add too many calories either.

So your tuna sandwich could be as low as 195 calories
or a little more if you add the other stuff, perhaps about 225 calories.
(you can check the label on the dill relish, and look up the calories
for onion, tomato, and lettuce, but they should not be too much)

Many times for supper we will have chicken with non-starchy vegetables on the side, if you take the skin off of (white meat) chicken and cook it without oil, like in a rotesserie (I sprinkle some season-all seasoning on it before cooking), it is only about 280 calories for 6 oz, which is plenty, and we use the low-fat "Smart-Beat" spread (just 20 calories per tbsp as opposed to 100 for regular margarine !) to flavor some non-starchy veggies like broccoli, califlower, spinach, green beans, or brussel sprouts.

(For now, at least till I lose so much weight, I have been avoiding too much starches, about the only starch I eat for now is the reduced calorie bread, I have been avoiding rice, potatoes, ect. but for those who do include those things in their menu just check the calorie and fat content per portion and use low-fat low-calorie ways to season them like the low-fat spread)

Some recent low-fat low-calorie snack items we have been trying is "Healthy Choice" microwave popcorn, my wife and I share a bag (two servings per bag) and it is only 100 calories per serving and low-fat.
Also, different brands of no-sugar-added frozen fruit bars I've seen are only 25 calories each, and sugar-free popsicles are just 15 calories each.

......and as always, check those labels when shopping in the grocery store,
try to avoid buying any foods that have a fat content over 30%
(I try to keep it at 25% but up to 30% is ok)

....and watch the calories per serving also, because some foods that might be listed as "low-fat" could still have too many calories from carbs and sugars.
