Why is it that I feel like I'm starving and can't get enough to eat a few days before I get my period? It's very depressing because I lose a few pounds and then I gain them right back every month. I'm 41 years old and it seems to get worse every year.. Does anyone know of a snack that would make me feel full without putting on the weight? I JUST CAN'T STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD and I'm sick of carrots and fruits all the time..

I would sugest that you drink more water during those days before your period and during your period, it helps with the cravings and water retention . As far a snack that helps make you feel full did you try things like soya nut, 5-6 low fat crackers with peanut butter or cream cheese, desperate times calls for desparate measures here so it`s better to allow for a more hearty snack then to give in to bad cravings...Another sugestion is a small yam nooked in the microwave it is full of nutrients and helps with the sugar cravings...

Some research have been saying that pre-period cravings may be related to increased magnesium needs. I forgot the physiologic explanation, but they used this to explain the common problem of sweets, particularly chocolate, cravings during this time of month, since chocolate is quite a good source of magnesium.
Since I have changed my daily calcium supplement with one that has magnesium as an additive, my cravings seem to have lessened. Also, I give in to my cravings -only, in a controlled manner.
Since I know I'll be craving chocolates, I make allowances in my diet (shave off some of the calories I have alloted for breakfast, lunch and dinner) so I can have a chocolate treat. In my case, I eat one to three pieces (nowadays, I just usually have one) of Lindor truffle (70 calories/candy). A little expensive, but the quality of the chocolate, takes care of the lack of quantity. I eat them frozen (takes longer to chew), and I appoint a time dedicated solely to eating them (nope, not while you're on the phone or reading emails) so I can enjoy the full experience.
So try preparing for your next craving cycle. We all know it will come, so the best thing to do is plan your counter-attack.
