usually the calories content for pasta is listed as dry pasta, sometimes they will add the content for cooked pasta with nothing on it....
200 cals for 2oz dry pasta does sound about right....G

I checked Fitday, and 2 oz. of dry spaghetti comes to 211 calories, and 2 ounces of cooked spaghetti comes to 79 calories, so G must be right--the information is for the dry pasta.

It's usually for dry on most pasta boxes. But it would seem to me that if you cook that 2 oz. of pasta, and as long as you don't add oil or butter to it during cooking, that the calories will remain the same.
I never did understand why they give calorie numbers for it DRY. Who sits around and eats dry pasta? But they probably do it that way because that's how many calories it has before WE get ahold of it and cook it with butter, oil and salt.

But why would the cooked have less calories than the dry? I mean, isn't 2 oz. of pasta 2 oz. of pasta?
This stuff confuses me, I should just give all this up, lol.

I think it's because when it's cooked, the dry pasta absorbs water, making cooked pasta heavier than the dry pasta.

I use the dry and raw options on Fitday a lot, because it's often easier to measure your ingredients before you cook them.

That's what I was thinking too.
I've read some stuff on pastas and the the U.S. Department of Agriculture defines a standard serving as 1/2 cup. But the Food and Drug Administration, which regulates food labels, says a standard serving is one cup.
I think one cup sounds a little more realistic, since pasta bulks up when cooked. 1/2 cup really isn't all that much.

I do that too. I like fitday having all that info for you to choose from. However, I wish their serving "sizes" were a little more consistent. Like some foods you can choose serving sizes in cups, ounces, slices, pounds, etc. And other food items only give you one choice.
