 so sad so mad
Author: Marie

I hear stories of people who are losing weight like on the Atkins I get email showing pics of people that lost over 100# I see it on TV time after time.

I read it on message boards like this one. How can I accept the fact that I will always be fat. I've tried Atkins, I've tried weight watchers, I do exercise and yet here I sit FAT. I can't suggest Atkins or any diet because I haven't had sucess on anything. how do I tell the people who stare at me that I've tried to lose weight but can't . How do I explain to the doctors when they tell me I'll to fat that I've tried the pills I've tried the diets and I do exercise . They look at me like ya right!

So, here I sit fat and sad and mad that I can't accomplish what others have.

Marie,

You have to change your lifestyle - not go on a diet. Have you ever tried to count your calories? That's really all it takes and yes, it is simple, but it is hard at the same time.

You can lose weight! You mention doctors, so I assume there is nothing medically wrong with you. Go to www.practicalweightloss.com and use the calorie calculator to determine what your maintenance calories are and then subtract 500 from that. I would at least sart there and add some exercise in if you can. Even if it's a walk around the block.

Start counting your calories! Reduce them and start losing weight. That's it. There is no magic pill or diet. People that go on Atkins are in effect reducing there calories and from what I've read, when they go off Atkins most gain the weight back and then some. Most everyone on this board has lost weight by calorie reduction and exercise. Keep coming here for motivation etc...but you have to reduce your calorie intake to lose weight. Start replacing high calorie fattening foods with Fruits and vegitable. If you drink sodas, switch to diet, drink lots of water.

My theory is this: If you never give up, you can, and will lose weight.

I had a horrible "relapse" that started with an injury preventing me from working out. I added a bunch of excuses to that and gained back all but eleven lbs. of the 27.5 I lost. But I came back here, and I'm on my way down again. And I'm just not going to give up!

I almost back to where I was work-out wise, and I know I'll be there soon. Time flys when you're having fun.

Just set small goals. Start walking, whatever you can. Then walk some more tomorrow.

Good luck,

Eric

I intend to live forever.....So far so good!

272/ /188 1.5 lbs. this week. I dare not say till the cast comes off

Just start with today. Try to see if you can eat less. Write down what you eat and the calories. If you eat too much, that's ok. Just write it down. Tomorrow when you get up start again. All you need is one good day to help you get started.

I know this is a very unpopular way to think of it but when I am really, really struggling with wanting to eat too much I skip the more healthy foods and eat what I want. But I count the calories and try to stay under 1500 a day.

When I do this it gives me a sense of control, that I did not go crazy eating everything in sight, and this leads to more confidence that I can CONTROL how much I eat. When I tell myself that I can eat anything I want today, as long as it is under 1500 calories, all of a sudden that feeling of "no willpower" is not so overwhelming.

This leads to being able to eat better foods because if you say you can eat anything you want, all of a sudden you don't want so much of it. And you will lose weight this way which of course leads to realizing if I ate more healthy foods I could lose even faster. This helps me get back the "motivation" I need to continue. One day I hope to get to the point that a lot of you are at now, where you really don't want the junk food at all, or at least not much of it. One day I will get there, slowly but surely.

Does this make sense?? Does anyone think this way or am I crazy?

Joan the numbers tell the story. 32 lbs. is nothing to sneeze at.
We each have needs that we have to fulfill if we want to stick to a lifestyle change for life.
When I started this time I spent time thinking about what sabataged me each time I lost in the past. I realized for an eating system to work for me it had to include my homemade bread, full fat cheese, milk (skim), and fruit. I can do without sweets but I won't stick without those 4 things.
Any food that you require can be fitted into a good method of eating. The trick as you know is to eat less of it.

This makes sense to me. This is sort of what I do with my "cheat day".

I like the idea of deciding before hand that I "can't live without......." certain foods. Never thought of it that way. The list would be really long, but the idea is good. Narrow it down - decide on a few things and incorportate them into the diet.

The "cheat" day is one of the first things I learned when I found this site. You guys were losing all sorts of weight but still eating foods that we all enjoy in moderation. Before reading your posts I was thinking I would have to give up the "bad" foods entirely to lose weight. Not so!! It was a real turning point for me. A new way of thinking.

Get mad and do something about it.

I "couldn't" lose weight for 16 years before I got mad, and was able to lose most my extra pounds in one year. What was the difference for me?

1. I got mad, really mad.
2. I made the decision to stop eating the junk and large portions.
3. I started exercising.
4. I quit sabotaging my own efforts, and I knew darn well that I had.
5. I adopted a "NO EXCUSES" mentality.
6. I never ever gave up.

Sometimes I think it takes hitting rock bottom to finally pull it all together. Make the decision to eat right, eat proper portions, and appropriate calories. No underestimating, no sabotage, no excuses.

I used to tell myself that I tried all of those things and they didn't work. They didn't work because I didn't keep doing it long enough to let it work. If you eat right and eat less you are going to lose weight. If you exercise along with that it will work even faster. I was in denial because I didn't want to give up the food. I still am sometimes. I am not losing alot of weight right now but I am losing inches which is just as good if not better in my opinion. I don't mean to sound like I have no compassion for you, I truly do because I have been where you are. I have lied to myself that I tried it all and nothing works. Eating less and healthier works if you keep doing it!!! I promise!!! I hope you can find something that is easy to stick with and lose all of your weight. I know you can do it, you just have to look inside yourself and find the determination that you are going to do it!!! Don't give up on yourself, you will succeed. You have to because you are the only one who can do it!!! Like Eric said, walk a little today then walk some more tomorrow. Before you know it it will be something you look forward to. Cut your servings in half and see what happens in about 2 weeks!!! I wish you the best!!!! You deserve it!

Smiles, Renee :)

I really doubt you're going to find anyone here that will tell you how to "accept the fact that you are fat and will always be." Like everyone else has said, you really can loose weight. Never accept being overweight, but don't let it depress you either. For many people, being depressed is the source of their over eatting. So be optimistic, realize that it will take some time, and some hard work, but put a smile on your face because you CAN do it...
