I have decided to stop today with all the "bad" snacking and try good snacking for once. I have a true problem when it comes to eatting all the wrong things and in big quanties. I feel I am eatting just to be eatting and most of the time i am not even hungry. I am a house mom and I stay in the house all day everyday. All I do is eat when i am cooking, after i am cooking, before i am cooking, just all day. I eat because i am sad, angry, happy, or just plain old bored. I live in the country part of La.(Fort Polk) and i hate bugs so that's the main reason why i don't go outside and i have a gym to go to but the thing is getting me started and once i do get started the obstacle is getting me to go on the regular basis. I am so tired of feeling so sorry for myself but the motivation is not there. Even being only 22 weighing 265 lbs. and only 5' 6. A person would think that should be all the motivation i need but for some reason it is not. After having my second child the weight seems to sticking and adding on. I don't know what to do or how to get it started. I need some ideas of GOOD "healthy" snacks instead of "little debbie"

Kim, I know exactly how you feel!! About the bugs too! (I live in TX), I didn't think I snacked until I started recording everything that went in my mouth. The first thing I do when I feel like I want to snack is drink a big glass of water, usually the urge to snack passes. I also try to snack on something that will leave me feeling like I actually ate something, my favorite is 1/2 C. non fat cottage cheese with a little salsa. Thats working for me so far, but the biggest thing is taking it day by day. I am also a stay at home mom, but I exercise at home using free weights and we also have stairs, so I utilize them too. I wish you the best of luck! Jill

Hi Kim -
I'm might be mistaken, but you sound a bit overwhelmed with all the stuff you know you should do to get yourself in shape. With the two young children and all the things that's involved in keeping a home running well, it might be helpful to try not to do it all at once - aka, try to acquire one good habit at a time.
For example, for the first two weeks, just try to drink 8 or more glasses of water a day and replacing you usual snack foods with fruits and vegetables and other healthy choices. Getting that down pat, move on to not eating while you're cooking and putting the food away - just eat when the food is served on the table - for another week or two. From there, move on by adding a 30 minute walk to your day, etc. I think you get the idea.
As you feel better about yourself (get a diary and write your progress down) you will soon find yourself being more 'forward" about your healthy lifestyle - hey, you might find going to the gym easy after a while.
Thing is, losing the actual weight is just half of the battle. The other half - the half that helps people maintain their new weight - involves behavioral modification, which is an even longer and tedious process than the actual weight loss.
Please tell us how you're doing. We'll all love to hear about your progress.
Michelle

Hey Kim, Congratulations! You've finally made that decision to change to a healthier lifestyle. You seem to know about the 'challenges' that you need to face - eating unhealthy foods in big quantity, eating when you're not hungry, eating to 'comfort' yourself, being inactivite, getting started. Do it a day at a time so you won't be overwhelmed. There's a good article called "6 Simple Steps To Fire Up Your Enthusiasm To Get You Started On Your Weight Loss Journey" you might want to read at www.startlosingpounds.com that I hope can help you get motivated. You can cut your usual snack in half and replace it with medium sized fresh fruit or veggies such as cucumber, baby carrot, grape tomatoes or celery; it's a great start to healthy eating.
Wish you the best!
Dee
