Someone posted yesterday about a smoothie they took to work. I was wondering if you put protein powder in it, or if that is even beneficial. A friend makes a smoothie nearly everyday, but I don't want to take her lead because after typing the recipe into fitday.com, each serving is over 500 calories! She was surprised, but says it is a meal replacement for her... but she isn't losing weight easily either... she puts protein powder in it. Any opinions on that for me?

well protein powder in shakes with smoothies is quite nice...but when ur having a smoothie its not the powder you have to worry about...fruit can suprisingly be quite high in cals...for example one medium banana is 100 cals...thats quite a bit!...i think an apple is 80 cals....so what u got to do is find out what fruit is worth how many cals and then, according to taste, make one up....lets say you put in a scoop of protein powder, thats only about 35 cals....maybe half an apple, 1/4 banana, a little orange, a few strawberries and u have something lower in cals...then again it may taste like crap! lol...u have to play around with it until u find something nice aswell as lower in cals....also add some crushed ice or water or something to 'bulk' it up a bit, that makes it a more satisfying drink without adding cals.

I've also heard of adding a ff vanilla yogurt to a smothie along with some fruit & ice. I'm not a big fan, I would rather have a meal but I'm sure it would be refreshing in the summer!
