can anyone tell me if ankle weights are good to use or not ? i'm using hand weights for arms etc. but i'd much rather focus on legs and butt! i want my legs to be strong and toned! or maybe when i take my walks i could use them? i need answers! (don't we all)! thanks!

i dont think they are a good idea for longer walks they place a strain on your ankles....and anyway they wont create much muscle stimulus in terms of 'building muscle' but they will burn more calories than just walking normally i would presume....i dont know its an iffy subject, i just would be concerned about the injury they could cause over time.

They are not good for walking in, but I wear them around the house whilst doing normal tasks. I also wear them now if I am doing reverse crunches on an incline so that I can cut down the numder of reps I do on the crunches. Or to do leg raises and strengthen the legs that way.

I would avoid them... prolonged use can lead to knee injury because your body is not meant to have extra weight on the ankles and it pulls down on your knees. For certain exercises... like leg lifts... where there is no pressure on your knees, then it can be beneficial, but be very careful with them -- you don't want to injure yourself.

I agree with Luna - if you want to add weights to your walk to intensify your workout, you should add a weighted vest. Weights on your wrists or ankles can lead to joint and back injuries.
