Hey everyone.. I've had a weight problem most of my life and I've been on yoyo diets since I can remember and I'm getting tired of it..I'm at the point now that I really don't care if I lose weight or not but I know I need to. How do I find that power inside myself to want to lose weight and keep it off?
Thanks,
Pam

the power inside yourself??? ohh u mean the drive and determination that you obviously lack if that hits hard and hurts to hear it should****the only way your gonna get weight off is if you work hard at it and stick to it****what kind of exercises and what kind of diet are you on???****the only way i could think u could get the drive you need is to stick to something and see that your getting results they might not be big results anything like maybe losin a pund or feeling better about yourself could be one****if you give up you will never know what its like to be something you want to be and youll always have to live with that****a steady diet and cardio will get you there slowly but it will come****dont give up stay hard on it an get to where you want to be youcan do it if you want to that is what it all boils down to is if you want it enugh thats my thoughts on it it might seem harsh but its the truth

Hi Pam -
I am not sure if this is true with you. But a lot of people who can't seem to stick with whatever it is that they want to do - successful and permanent weight loss in your case - seem to have a problem with the "REALITY" of the process. That is, most good things like having a healthy body, is a process that TAKES TIME and a considerable amount of EFFORT to get and maintain results. As Madonna's personal trainer said on an interview about other clients wanting to have Madonna's physique - it took years for her to get that body, and he doubts most of them would be willing to work as hard as she does for it.
Therefore, granted weight loss may not the hardest thing in the world, it surely is not easy as all these quick fix adds seem to have brain-washed this country. Maybe it might work for you if you work on refocusing your "weight-loss reality lens" so you do not end up yo-yo-ing as you've been doing - doing a little of this or that, and then giving up because you think that whatever efforts you've put into it is not paying off as much as you expect it to.
I, for instance eat only 1400 calories/day and exercise 45-90 minutes 5-6 days a week consistently and am losing only a pound or so a week. I used to think that this was too slow, until people from this site made me realize that this was realistic results for me (since I am not really that overweight, and have been for most of the time just trying to get to a lower normal weight). I even know it, as a health professional, that this was true, but at that time my psyche keeps telling me that I'm working too hard and not getting results as those people on TV are.
Hope this helps you figure out why you've been having problems with motivation.
Michelle

Hey. I have had the same problems even though I am a teenager. The best the to do is just find that one excersize (or maybe a few) that really do it for you. Find something that is comfy for you. Dont over do it either. DONT STARE AT THE SCALE!!!!!!!!! That was my problem. I wanted to see instant results. Just believ in yourself and ask God for strength
