When I was doing 1000 to 1200 cals a day, I felt like I had a hairy tongue, it's strange. Do you have a link I can check out about it? I never thought it could be from malnutrition, I though I had a case of thrush that would never go away. Once I upped the cals it went away but I still would like to read up on it.
Thanks

I checked my biochemistry notes and it just states that a white "fuzz" will appear on the tongue because dead skin cells may fail to fall off during fasting or very low calorie diets lacking in vitamins and minerals. I would imagine that with prolonged fasting one would start to display the symptoms associated with vitamin deficiencies and subsequent suppression of the immune system. I couldn't find any reliable links. This is all I came up with: http://www.uhseast.com/136952.cfm
Maybe the fuzz on your tongue was due to some sort of an antibiotic therapy? Your doctor probably has more reliable insight than the website or me.
here's an article on thrush too: http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?id=DS00408
