hey everyone. I am 5'4" and I weight 131 lbs. I consider myself very fat for my age. I am only 13. I know I shoudn't care, but I look at everyone I know and they are all skinny. My whole family is skinny. My 20 year old brother only weighs like 30 lbs. more than me! All my friends weigh around 115 lbs. I don't want to lose weight because I look at my friends, but because I am not comfortable with my body. I have fat rolls on my stomach and I have to suck my stomach in to wear some shirts. My thighs don't really bother my because they are mostly muscle, seeing that I play soccer. If anyone can help me, please do so because i hate waking up in the morning and seeing all this fat all over me.
Thank-you for your time, even if you can't help me

I am sorry that you feel this way about your body. You are young, its ashame, vanity already plays parts in our children, at such a young age. I am older then you and it's still isnt easy to compare myself to other.
About what you can do, eat healthier, try not to eat chips (fried ones), have alternatives. They have some really good baked ones out, but watch your serving size, that is just as important. Figure out how many calories you need for your body, then adjust them to lose weight. This site, on its main page, has the tools you need to find this out. Its a good thing you want to make changes now, b/c I wish I had earlier on. But young people, you just need to make better food choices. If you can get rid of pop, no coke and all that, or I heard some people go to diet. I personally only drink water, and fat free milk. You can make small changes that will help those 20 lbs go away. Also do you do some kind of weight training. Always remember who you are in the inside is way more important then what you look like on the outside BUT if you are doing this for you, then thats great:) Eat more fish ( I personally hate it, but to each it's own) not fried foods either, no McD's or just dont go as much, try to make small changes you will stick with, so it makes it a battle you can win.

You are only 13 so nutrional meals are important for you ...Since you play soccer do you do any other form of exercises that would help you tone the rest of your body? It would probably improve your game by making you more flexible also...Proper warm ups, cool down and stretches are also important...My advice at this point would be to eat properly and not worry about your weight, instead focus on toning your body...You said that your legs are muscular well that acounts a bit for weighing more then the 115lb friend...You may want to check out doing something like pilates...It will teach you stretches and will help you tone your body...So avoid having too much junk food and pop(switch to diet)include healthy fruits and veggies and don`t forget to enjoy being a teenager...B.T.W. we usually give our son a fruit 1/2 hour before a hockey game or soccer match and this gives him more steam for the game...

kid, you are growing...you are active enough...give yourself a break, and stop compareing yourself to others. you play soccer, that is an excellent exercise. but check out when you are relaxing what do you eat, BUT realize you are ONLY 13, you are changing, you are growing...but remember 13...good god, don;t give this kid a complex. YET.

hi catherine,
when i was 13, i was 180 lbs! when i went to high skool, 40 lbs just kinda disappeared! u may be a little bigger than all ur friends, but ppl grow at different rates! trust me! everyone changes SOOOO much during their teen years and 13 is an age where everyone in your class will be at different stages! just keep up the soccer and other activities and i'm sure you'll start to feel more comfortable with yourself (u'll probably have a huge growth spurt or something!). please don't compare urself to others! that's what i did and lost all of my self esteem! good luck! u have nothing to worry about!
