Last night my daughter told me she wants me to be skinny. And of course I told her I was trying. But I asked her why she wanted me to be skinny, and she said because if you don't get skinny you could die. She is only 6 years old. I don't know where she heard that or what to say to her. I just reassured her that I was not going to die. And that I was going to get "skinny". Anyone have any advice that I can tell her ifshe brings it up again? (She always does bring stuff up more then once).
Anyway, I am going to try even harder to lose this weight because my daughter is very sensative and worries alot. I don't want her to worry that I might die. For example Her great great great uncle died about 3 months ago at the age of 84 from lung cancer. When I told her she cried because her Aunt Gin was going to be alone. And since we live almost 4 hours from her we can't see her very often. Elisha prays for Aunt Gin everyday so she won't be to sad or lonely.
Thanks for listening to me ramble. Kim

Just keep losing weight and she won't have to worry about it anymore and you won't have to worry about her worrying about it anymore. That should be motivation enough.

Just telling a child, even a 6 year old, not to worry, doesn't always work. I would, if it were my daughter, reassure her that I am doing everything I can to take care of my health, diet, exercise, relieving stress (kids understand best about wanting to have fun). Then maybe you and she could make up a little weekly chart to help mommy track all the good things she does to take care of herself, and your daughter can help you complete it with star stickers or something like that for each time you exercise, eat right, do something fun, etc. That way she can see for herself what you are doing to keep yourself healthy. Explain to her that if you keep doing all these good things, then you will get skinny in time, but that it will take some time (maybe use how far off Christmas is as an example).
It doesn't do any good to just dismiss her worries; help her to address them in a positive fashion, and they will diminish. Pretty good motivation for mom, too.

I would explain to her that being overweight doesn't mean you're going to die, it's being UNHEALTHY that will kill you. Many people who are overweight, but healthy, live very long lives, then, on the other hand, there are many skinny, unhealthy people who die very young.
Factors such as drinking, drugs, smoking, stress, unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, etc, all can lead ultimately to death. I'm afraid she may develop an eating disorder, afraid to gain weight because it could kill her.

Thanks you guys. I think I am going to do the sticker thing. Because she will really like that. She has a calender that we put stickers on everyday, (well almost everyday.) that she behaves or doesn't have to sit in a time out. It is really possitive for her I get her to behave without having to yell or spank her. I love it. Oh and at the end of the month if she has at least 20 stickers she get a "suprise".
Anyway thatnks again.

I don't really think they do live long lives. Half of them die before their time if they are over weight just as a smoker will die before their time. It cracks me up when someone says this because to my mind even if grandpa smoked until he was 90, who the hell knows that he would not have lived until 105 yrs old if he had not smoked at all? What is a long life? To many of us it means living for as long and as comfortable and healthily as possible. Some may say 80 is a ripe old age and then again other's may say the sky's the limit and if we treat ourselves right, we deserve to live longer (unless something happens to us that is out of our control and sudeen) and they may not think it is unreasonable to expect to live longer than a fat person who doesn't care about heart disease or a person who smokes if they are normal wieght for height and never touched a fag in my life.
