Yesturday I was out shopping w/ friends and didnt get home till almost 11pm. When I recorded my dinner in my food log I realized I had only had about 1000 (I normaly eat 1200-1500 per day) calories for the day. Now I am freaking out cuz I dont want my body to think it is starving but I hate to eat anything right before bed and I wasnt feeling hungry. I finally ate a zone bar and went to bed.

Now my question is which would have been better? Or rather, if I was less than 1200 one day would that send my body into starvation mode or does it take a prolonged time.

I think it takes many days in a row of not eating enough... One day probably would not hurt.

I agree with Melanie. I don't think one day is going to send you into starvation mode.

I would just listen to your body. THere are some days when I hardly eat a thing and I'm not hungry or missing it and there are other days when I am very hungry and so I eat accordingly. One day of "too little" or "too much" isn't going to completely throw your body off. But probalby the day after your too little of too much food day, you'll feel the oppisite craving (to eat more or eat less) and then you should follow.
