Hi, my name is Leah and this is my first time posting on this board.....I finally came to the realization last night that the only way to lose weight is slowly through calorie control. My question is, how many calories are enough? I think i wasn't losing weight before because my calories were extremely restricted(less than 800), and I'd like to know the amount that is a good to lose. I'm thinking between 1000-1200. thanks

Go to www.practicalweightloss.com and use the calorie calculator there. Subtarct 500 from whatever number you get and this will be the amount of calories you can consume in a day to lose one pound per week. Depending on what number you get, you may be able to reduce a little more. Going lower than 1200 will not stop you from losing weight. I've just read that it is not recommeded. Weight loss is calories in versus calories out, so you have to eat less and move more.

Welcome Leah,
What's your stats? (Weight, height, goal weight)
Along with the food part, don't forget water...lots o' water (and then somemore). Also, gradually work in a little exercise--start with a 10 minute walk (or at least putting on your sneakers and looking outside).
Don't starve yourself--you WILL FAIL if you do (I'll bet the farm on that one).
Don't think "diet"--think "DO-IT." That means a healthy lifestyle change that includes healthy food, treats in moderation, appropriate portion control and exercise for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. It is the ONLY way you will remove and KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF for a lifetime. Can you accept that?
