I have been running everyday now since June 9th. I have lost 21.5 pounds but have been stuck this last week at 239. I went and had a wonderful sushi dinner and gained three pounds..I beleive it was water weight from the salt since it came off in two days and I didn't really over eat to gain real weight.
I am trying to maintian 1800 -1900 calories a day. Do others have big weight gains after eating salty foods?? Anyone have and ideas on how to shock the sytem to get out of a plateu???? I run three miles a day in the morning and walk another mile after work....I need some pearl of wisdom to help me los another 39 pounds.
Thoughts???

Sounds like you are doing good already. Just keep on keeping on...it'll come off...it has too with the routine that you are following. Just one thing though, maybe you should add some weight training to your exercise. Losing weight as fast as you are you may be losing lean tissue as well. By weight training you can possibly add some lean tissue as you go although I have heard that it is a hard thing to do while on a weight reducing routine...but it couldn't hurt.

Sodium is a horrible thing. I never noticed how it affected me when I was thinner, but now if I eat something high in sodium, let say like PIZZA then the next day my hand are all puffed up. The most I've ever "gained" due to sodium is 2 pounds.

I had the same problem last week. Had a meal pretty high in sodium on Thursday night with weigh in on Friday - not a good idea. It showed an increase of 2 pounds, which I knew wasn't right. By the next day the 2 pounds were off, and I had dropped one more. So, in short, yes, sodium will effect the scale in terms of water weight gain.
Sounds like you are doing very well. You should be proud of yourself. Just keep up the good work and I am sure you will see results. Good luck!

One of the problems of checking your weight all the time is you have to deal with 2-5 pound swings that are almost always water retention. I woke up this morning at 188 pounds. After breakfast, my session in the gym (where I drink a lot of water) I weighed 191.4. By the time I've done cardio later this afternoon I'll be back to around 189 - 190. As Doug is quick to point out you shouldn't sweat the short term numbers, week-to-week trends are much more useful to look at.

Pizza is a big overnight weight gain item for me, too. Sushi has done it to me also (the soy sauce, I think). But by far the worst culprits I've found are medications--I recently gained 17 pounds in one week due to medication-induced water retention, and another time I gained 8 pounds in one night. So new meds are always something to look at if you've suddenly gained a lot of weight that can't be explained by calories.

Waiting through the plateau is really tough. I'm just amazed that you lost 20 + pounds in 6 weeks. That is so awesome. Unfortunately, now is the slow down period where the weight loss may be slower. I always tell my firiends that rushing it is not the answer. If I were you, I would give my body time to adjust to the weight loss and not worry about plateau-ing(as long as your not gaining). For me, its the best way to keep weight off as well as maintain all the habits your learning all the way. I think your doing great! God bless your motivation to run everyday. I wish I had it!

You can reduce your calories a little bit more. Or trying running every other day. Those should help.
