I have a daughter that is about to reach puberty and all I can remember about that time in my life is that I started to gain weight. Not that my daughter will do that but I was wondering if anyone has gone thru that with their daughter and was also wondering how do I talk to her about watching what she eats a little closer without her getting scared and doing something that she shouldn't do? I know I'm the one that needs to set the example for her but she also needs to learn that when she's hungry or bored that she doesn't grab junk food all the time.
Thanks..

Is your daughter popular at school? Does she participate in extra curricular activities like cheerleading, band, sports, etc...? When I was in middle school and high school I wasn't popular and didn't participate in school functions and I think those things really help a teenager avoid food as an outlet for their frustration. My sister on the other hand, who is 18 now, was popular in middle school and high school. She was in the dance team, played an instrument, made good grades, and has never had a problem with her weight.
Keep an eye on her and if she begins to obsess over food or start eating alone for no reason then try to steer her in a different direction. Preferably one that involves being outside or at school with friends. I know it would have done a world of good for me and maybe I wouldn't be trying to lose the weight now.
