I see so many commercials advertising weight loss/exercise programs: video tapes, diets, diet pills, machines, etc. I've never tried one of these things, but I would like to know if anyone has used a similar product and what the results were. Mainly, I want to know if any of these gimmicks work.

Actually..only a few really work.
Any exercise video tape that gets you working out..works.
Any exercise machine that gets you working out..works.
Diet pills? Forget them.
Fad diets? Forget them.
Machines that claim weight loss without exercise? FORGET THEM,
Weight loss is actually REAL simple.
Eat less calories than your body burns a day. exercise to increase the calories burned a day. There is no miracle pill or magic wand. It's determination, focus, time, and hard work.

Although its an older fad now, a few people in my family have lost a good deal of weight doing the Tae-Bo workout. It's like the people above me said, in that, whatever gets you working will do it, but for me its always been an issue of finding the things that will get me working and be interesting enough that I will keep doing it. Although I have not tried it, my mom and my sisters have said that the Tae-Bo workout is a lot of fun, so consequently they have had some luck doing it. I think if you can't go to the gym and don't have equipment at home, just about any of the workout tapes out there are helpful. Before I got my treadmill, I know I couldn't go to the gym and I just didn't know where to start as far as what excercises to do for how long, etc. The tapes helped me get moving, which was the most important part (I used a series called "The Firm") Although I really only used the tapes for a short time, then got my treadmill, I ended up with a weight loss of 20 lbs, so as far as working like they are "supposed to" (i.e. causing people to lose an incredible amount of weight in a short period of time) I wouldn't listen to what the ads say, but in terms of getting you moving and keeping you interested, I think they are a good bet.
