I am wondering what low-fat or "light" versions of products you like? For instance, I like dressing on my salads, and budget enough fat to enjoy that, though not wanting to use 15g of fat, which is my favorite regular dressing's content. Non-fat dressings are bitter tasting. Same with yogurts. I am enjoying a Yoplait one right now, because I wanted to to try something different. The other brand my family usually eats is a bit sour tasting to me, and I haven't been eating yogurt like I should because of it. I don't like non-fat much of anything because a little fat doesn't hurt if budgeted, and they seem to have to add so much sugar and thus calories, which is what it boils down to anyway. Also, I do not feel secure in using Nurtra-sweet/aspartame, etc... just not sure on the health risks there. My mom's heart beats out of her chest when she has anything with "fake sugar" so I avoid those as well. Anyway, things like salad dressings, etc. are expensive to buy too many "try it out" bottles, so I thought I would see if anyone has done any taste testing and wants to share their input! Thanks.

Love Brummel and Brown low fat butter (it's actually made from yogurt) on toast in the morning.
Love Pepperage Farm's 9 grain bread...lots of fiber and not too high in fat
Love Baked Lays potatoe chips...am very careful NOT to eat out of the bag and to count out one serving w/my sandwich
Love Mcdonald's chicken ceaser salad shakers w/light vinegret dressing
Love Wendy's chilli
Love Louis Rich's light hot dogs (not very often!) w/Hormel's turkey chilli (no beans)
I eat my dogs w/my 9 grain bread sans bun
I love Old El Paso's no fat refried beans w/taco salad...heavy on the salad and light on the taco
I don't like any low fat cheese so far, so I'm learning to cut back on the cheese w/my meals...

Isn't Aspartame asociated w/memory loss? And nutri-sweet as well? I know I have a terrible short term memory...my husband swears it's all the diet coke, actually he calls it Diet Crack I drink!
There was another question I was going to ask, but I forgot what it was!
Hey get away from my coke!

For mayo I use the "light" kind instead of the fat free. It has much more taste and about the same calories.

no, 'fake sugar' has nothing to do with memory loss

Thank you for posting that GymMachine. I have often wondered about the validity of these claims against aspartame.
I monitor the Heath Canada public health warnings regularly (work-related) and have never seen a warning about aspartame. And it's surprising how many things they will warn us about.
But if anyone is still feeling stand-off-ish about aspartame, there is an all-natural sweetener available called Stevia. It's a plant, you can even buy it at many plant nurseries. The leaves are very sweet - sweeter than aspartame and you get the added bonus of chlorophyll. Health food stores sell stevia in extract or powdered forms (the plant is a little hard to add to your coffee in the morning). It takes a little experimentation to get teh right amount, but it's a 'natural alternative' you can use where you have the option.
as for other products, Have you tried Astro fat free yogurt? It's got a nice smooth texture and not bitter. Also, in Canada, the Safeway brand of fat free stirred yogurts (Lucerne) is really good and comes in all kinds of flavors (on sale this week too).
In general, I don't notice the difference in fat free or low fat products. Though, I can't stand the taste of regular fat anything, or oils, or butter on its own (yuck).
Cheers,
n

I have never avoided the artificial sweetners. There are some new ones under review by the FDA that are expected to hit the market, that are supposedly thousands of times as sweet as sugar. I use plenty of MSG to flavor my veggies, another amino acid combination. I just don't experience any ill effects at all from these products.

I have just discovered balsamic vinigar for cooking and salads. I tried the grocery store variety before and that's what kept me away from it for so long. If you can get some that is at least 10 years old, the difference is like night and day. It is all I prefer on my salads now.
