OK. I saw some posts earlier about what to eat before and after a workout. I don't like eating anything solid before I exercise and I usually DON'T feel like eating afterwards for quite some time. Is that healthy? I know I drink alot afterwards and try to snack but it ends up sitting really heavy. Any ideas?

well u should eat something definately after (eating before will give u more energy to workout in my opinion but thats a diff story)...wether its cardio or weights u deplete glycogen stores in the liver and muscle rather quickly...your goal is to replenish this as soon as u can otherwise your body remains catabolic and goes through a series of nasty functions just to get its glycogen back (robs muscle protein etc)...some people argue that eating afterwards halts any fat burning...this is absurd purely because during cardio, minimal fat is used as an energy source to get you through (mainly glycogen and carbs are used)...cardio is about raising the metabolism...wether u eat or not afterwards doesnt effect the metabolism but eating afterwards assures the ceasing of catabolic hormones that can tend to wreck havoc on your body, mostly muscle tissue.

so what kinds of things would you suggest to restore glycogen?

IF you don't want to eat anything solid, you could try an supplement, like one of the nutrition shakes on the market. I use the Carb Control by EAS. They also make some that are not low in carbs. It's actually a meal. Lots of nutriants.

"people argue that eating afterwards halts any fat burning...this is absurd purely because during cardio, minimal fat is used as an energy source to get you through (mainly glycogen and carbs are used)...cardio is about raising the metabolism..."

That is just your opinion:

Cardio takes you into catabolism after ten minutes of doing it. Eating resolves the problem. Why do you think it is recommended that we drink a good protein shake within 15 minutes after a workout? It's because the sooner it's in your gob, the sooner it can stop the catabolic process. Geez.

Anne-Marie (or gym expert) you have just backed up my claim

Cardio takes u into catabolism after 20 minutes Anne-Marie....and yes eating does resolve the problem....re-read what u wrote your agreeing with me

body for life fan i take it there michelle lol...bill is affilliated with EAS...i havent tried their supps before they are quite pricey here...anyway

For post workout food, u will always need protein...and this makes it difficult to go home and cook a chicken breast....a shake makes life easier...a high glycemic carb can be carrot, white bread, potato, white rice, oryou could go one better and have a powerade/gatorade type of drink...they work even faster.

LOL, I guess I'm Bill's biggest fan...it shows huh. :)

Since Wal-Mart and some grocery stores now carry the EAS products, the price is a little more reasonable. I don't go crazy with the suplements, but the EAS brand is the best tasting ones I've tried so far. I just use the shakes and the Results for Women energy drinks that have 0 carbs, calories and sugar - BUT they are loaded with the same amount of caffine as a cup of coffee.
