Hi Im new. On Feb 28, 04, I changed my life. I drasticly changed my
eating habbits and started an exercise program. 5 months later Ive lost
50lbs!! Yeah!. Im getting verry frustraited though, because Ive reached
what I think is a plataue. Ive gone about 3 weeks without losing any weight.
Ive, have intensified my workouts with my trainer, and have tried to shock my body. Does anyone out there know any thing about plataues and how long they last? Kelli

Since you have already intensified your workouts then the next thing you should check is your calorie intake. If you are not losing weight chances are you are eating too many calories and are maintaining.

I eat an average of 1500 cals. a day and I work out every other day,
about an hour and a half, cardio and weight traing. I am hungry, throughout
the day. I eat 5 times a day. When I started back in Feb., I ate about
1800 cals. a day, then backed it down to 15. Maybe I should go 12. I dont
know, that just seems like not enough. Ive made it this far so Ill do what
it takes! Thank so much for your suggestion!

I agree with Michelle--true plateaus (lasting at least a few weeks) are usually caused by too many calories.

To find out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, go to practicalweightloss.com and go to the "Calorie Counter" section. Subtract 500 calories from your maintenance level to lose one pound a week. For most people, weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise--it's a lot easier and less time consuming to reduce the calories you eat than to increase the calories you burn by exercise.

Also, if you don't already do this, for one week at least, keep track of every single thing you put in your mouth and add up the calores (you can use fitday.com to do this, or other websites). A lot of people underestimate how many calories they're consuming until they keep a journal (including me). Good luck!
