ok im 14 and weigh about 120lbs, and im 4ft 10. ive just started eating right and excercising to get in shape for runnin the mile in gym class comin up in may. i used to eat a ton of junk foor every single day and found myself eating when i wasnt hungrey and out of boredom so ive dropped the whole junk food thing and now i only have it in super small amounts when i think i deserve a treat. but i was wondering if walking 2 miles on the treadmill everyday would really help me shape up to run the mile in a descent time in 2 months, and two, if im overexcercising? i usually have some celery or a banana or sumpthin for breakfast and then some veggies for lunch and a special k bar and then for supper i just have whatever my parents r cookin and i dont worry about the fat calories for it cuz i havent had barely any all day but i was startin to think hey, and i gunna end up bein like 90 lbs from all this veggies and excercise deal? and i just dont want my docter or anything bein like ya know uve lost two much weight since the last time i saw u or sompthin

Well, I say go for it. If you notice that you're losing more than 2 pounds per week, or you feel overly exhausted from what you are doing then add a little more food to your diet. Just listen to your body and if you see signs that you are overdoing it then make a few changes in your diet. Walking two miles a day is not over excersing as long as you can handle it. After awhile try adding spurts of jogging into you walking workout. This'll help you prepare for the mile, which I'm assuming you will have to jog most of, and it'll change your workout so you won't get bored with it. Also, you might consider some light weight lifting, it'll tone the muscels and help burn fat. Goodluck! I remember having to do the mile in gym class back in junior high also.

I think it'd make more sense to practice on the real track that you're going to use in May instead of the treadmill just to help build your confidence. I'd start out by jogging/walking that mile every day (or maybe every few days, you don't want to burn out) and time yourself. Maybe keep a record of your times, keep trying to improve them. When it comes time to actually run that mile in gym class you'll breeze through it.
When I first started exercizing I was only walking like six blocks (which I thought was a lot) now I can crank out over six miles a session on the elliptical trainer. I still don't really like it, but it's great to see progress.

Walking 2miles wont help you that much....
What you want to do is a lil intervel training very light.
Run / jog for a minute, then walk till you catch your breath then Run / jog for a minute etc. Do about 20-30min of this
After a week of that increase it to 2min run / jog 20-30min
3rd week increase it to 3min run / jog 20-30min
Keep increasing till its time for your one miler...by the time you get to running 9 or 10 minutes strait you'll have a mile down so easy, you can be the best in the class probably.

i agree with john, if u want to train for a run then u need to run not walk...also u need to eat more, your cals for the day are very very low..it can be dangerous theres next to nothing in veggies in terms of calories...if u want to do well with your run you need to eat better and no amount of training will make that better without diet...add more carbs in my opinion
