hello all.....its me again.... Sorry I have not been on quite as much. Have been very busy. I have been at the same weight 151-153 for approximately 4 months now....(oh my has it REALLY been that long) before this I was 23 lbs heavier at the beginning of this year. I am wanting to get back on track and lose about 25 more. My problem is honestly, motivation, and NIGHT TIME!!!!
I will wake up have an excellent breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The problem is at night.....usually after the kids go to bed. It's like MY time to relax. watching tv, computer time, it just seems i can't do it without food. I really need some pointers in this area. Anything ANYONE has found helpful I will try. I hate to be ruined by a couple of measley hours in on whole day. Thanks in Advance :)

have snacks inbetween meals..sure the breaky, lunch and dinner will have to be lighter in calories but it keeps u feeling fuller, longer, even at night...another one is to drink lots of water at night, it tends to fill you up..i think the american version of our 'cordial' or flavouring for water is kool aid isnt it? if u get that in diet add that to water for flavour and just drink, before you know it you do feel fuller..otherwise its a matter of willpower.

I have this exact same problem. I gained 10 pounds a year, for 4 years, from night time eating after my child was born. I would put him to bed and watch tv or read. It was a shame because I ate well the rest of the day.
I knew I would always eat something between dinner and bed. I decided my after dinner snack would be no more than one serving of fruit plus one serving of either skim milk, cocoa or 90 calorie yogurt plus one serving (100 calories) of either a granola bar, healthy cookie or cracker. If I were starving from a hormonal fluctuation I would have a small pbj sandwich instead of the granola bar... THis worked for me and I lost 10 pounds a year just be doing this. On SUnday nights I would have a regular dessert.
Now, I try to limit myself to about 200 calories after dinner. I've recogized that mental or physical fatigue are the two triggers that make me eat and sometimes I just go to bed early.
Hope this helps

O.K. It`s your time to relax right?, Then a good book and a bubble bath and don`t come out until the cravings are gone.....
Or allow yourself a healthy snack just before the kids are off to bed and then be firm and lock up all the food!
Pour yourself a glass of water with ice cubes and slices of lime or lemon in a fancy glass and sit back relax and sip your water feeling like you are doing something special for yourself(which you are)
If watching t.v. gets you munching because you associate that time with eating, then avoid watching t.v. for a while...
I myself find that coming on line keeps food away since I don`t eat near the computer so many times when I feel restless and would munch I come and read posts , even the older posts to get inspired...
Hope this helps, soon once you start establishing the habit of not munching while watching t.v. things will get easier....Leanbutt

Hi Ya,
Since I have rambunctious 6-year-old triplets, I really collapse after they are in bed! I can't go to bed early, since I home school my kids (under a home study agreement with a school district), and need to teach to State Standards, so always have math/English/social Science handouts to type up for my kids, and lessons to prepare. I was eating at 10 or 11 pm, and overdoing it, so my weight stuck fast, although I wasn't actually gaining anything (thanks to a lot of exercise.) I did recognize that having that few minutes to relax with a snack I really liked was very important to my mental well being, and (sorry to those who responded already) drinks of water -- or a bubble bath -- wasn't going to cut it for me! Sometimes it is simply easier to "go with the flow", rather than fighting with yourself over every morsel, so here's what I did (and still do) for what it is worth. I was in the habit of having a low fat or non-fat yogurt every afternoon arond 4 PM for an afternoon snack, and I really love those things -- enjoy picking out the flavours I like in the store! I decided to forego that afternoon snack (still have fruit or something for a morning snack) by eating lunch a little tad later, and dinner a little tad earlier. So now, at 10 PM every night, I get my lovely little ceramic flowery bowl (last one of a set I bought years ago that are all broken save that one) and my special little flowery handled spoon, put the yogurt in, put a couple of walnuts or pecans on top, put my feet up, watch one of the "chick" shows if possible (Judging Amy, Crossing Jordan, The Practice), and eat that yogurt very slowly, licking the spoon, and having a good time! Is it ritualistic behaviour? I guess so, but a mild ritual, and less harmful than the cookies, crackers, chips, and even sandwiches that i used to eat at night, standing at the kitchen counter feeling guilty! At 11 Pm, I go back to the computer and finish typing handouts for the kids, and then photocopy everything ready for our school time next day, and go to bed about midnight. It works for me, and my weight is staying steady now at 131 lbs, which is actually 4 lbs less than my supposed "ideal" weight, based on my 20% body fat. I think it's all about calories "in" versus calories "burned", and if you can balance those 2 magic numbers, I don't think it really matters too much in terms of weight issues what time of day you eat. That's only my humble opinion, of course, and I'm only saying what works for me! Have a great weekend! Dee

When I feel hungry I go to the computer and read the messages all the time.
Sometimes I skip some new messages just so I have something the next time.
Soon I am not so eager to eat something.

That was really good advice. I might get needle and thread and embroider that advice at night to keep me from snacking.

Thanks! As you saw, it gets me a late night snack of something I really LOVE to eat, but doesn't increase my daily calories since i just shifted that snack from mid-afternoon to night time!!! Have a good Sunday, and email me some time...lost your email address when i mistakenly deleted all my messages! Cheers, Dee
