how many inches per pants size?

I was just wondering if anyone knows how many inches you have to lose in your waist before you can go down a size in clothing? For men it's easy, if your waist is 34 inches, you wear a size 34. It's much more complex for women. ...I'm thinking it is 2" per size. Tell me if I'm wrong. You see, I packed away all my clothes that are too small. Which is pretty much most of them. I'm left with one pair of pants. A size 14. I want to go through my clothes again and see if any of my 12's fit me....It was very hard the first time, going through my clothes and I don't think I can do it again unless I am sure some will fit.
P.S. Trying on all my clothes and packing away the ones that were too small really was an eye opener for me. Seeing my empty closet and bare ring finger (I could no longer wear my wedding rings) hurt me emotionally. But since then I've lost 7 pounds and am now wearing my wedding rings! Now I want to complete the deal and start wearing some clothes again that don't have an elastic waist band!

For me it was about 4 inches/7 pounds and I could go back to my 4's being comfortable and my 6's real lose. I also couldn't wear my ring anymore and that was the cincher for me.

oh, man. I thought I was the only "non-wedding-ringer". I hate that part of all of this. I have quite a ways to go before mine will fit again. When I got married, I was 124 lbs. and the ring was actually a little loose. I now can fit it on my pinky finger. Pretty bad. My fingers tend to gain which is a bummer.

About the clothing sizes, I'm not totally sure, but that 2" sounds about right with my past experience. It may be different with different women because the sizing in our clothing has more to it than just waist size.

I think it is different depending on your height. At 5ft even, I can only gain 5 pounds before I have to go up a size or I'm very uncomfortable. Or maybe it's because I'm very short waisted. Someone here pointed out to me that it could be a good thing so I can be aware when I need to get off my butt and work on it. LOL

I find that women's clothing is all over the map it comes to size. I've noticed that I will fit into a regular size 18 at one shop, and have to "squeeze" into a regular size 18 at another. Some clothing lines like Sag Harbor are more generous with their regular and women's sizes. Right now I have two pair of regular size 16 pants (different brand names) I'm using to gage my loss. One pair are fitting a bit "snug" but almost wearable; whereas the other pair is a bit of a struggle to zip up.

I used to DREAD going shopping for clothes when I was fatter--now I routinely go out and try on clothes just for fun (even though I don't buy many)....ain't weight loss grand!!

Even pants that are sized by waist are screwy. I routinely wear one size 28 and one size 30. I fit equally into one size 4 and one size 10. Shrug. You definitely need to try stuff on these days.
Just an aside ... I can't tell ya how much I love those size 4's!!
I suppose if you had two pairs same maker, same style ... they're probably 2 inches different.

Funny you should say this... I am having that problem with pants of the same style and make! I found some wonderful quality, inexpensive jeans that I can use for work in the field (most jeans these days are flare or have lace or frilly stuff on them it was impossible to find normal straight leg jeans).

I bought a size 40 and found they fit well fresh from the dryer but loosened up once worn to the point of sliding down. So I bought a 38. Pretty iffy getting on - had to lie on the bed and even looked around for some plyers. :-)

Expecting them to loosen up after a couple hours, I wore them out for the day shopping with hubby. Four hours later I had to make an excuse to get home and change as they were killing me. Hmmmm the 40's are too big, the 38's too tight.

What's a girl to do? :-)

(this wasn't at all related to the question, but wanted to share anyway)

Cheers,

Niki
