The basic advice to "eat less, exercise more" to lose weight applies at any age, but at 12, your body has special needs, and you should be asking your parents and your doctor to help you figure out an effective, healthy weight loss plan. If you can't talk to them, talk to your school counselor or nurse. It's good you want to do something about your weight, but you are going to need some face-to-face help from the adults in your life. Hey Jessica,
The good news is that your height and weight you are just barely considered overweight. Your BMI (body mass index) is 26.3. The body mass index is used by doctors to figure out what is considered normal, overweight, and obese for a particular height and weight. Here is the breakdown:
18 - 25: normal
25-30: overweight
30-above: obese
So at 26.3 you're just barely overweight, hardly anything to worry about at all! Considering you are still growing height wise you really shouldn't worry about it. Two inches taller and your BMI will be 24.6 -- normal. I'm sure you're gonna grow at least two more inches considering how young you are.
