ok... my (current) episode of back pain started when i did my 2mile (only the second day of it) when i woke up allready hurting..... so im thinking i need to tone it down a bit.... i didnt feel up to trying the 1mi watp.... so what i did this morning was set the microwave timer for 5 mins... turned on some up up up music (mel eth) and just walked in place (sorta like WATP)

so what i was wondering is this... is it better to do 1 LONG bit of workout... or several short bits..... im thinking i want to do 20 mins today (thats the length of the 2 mile WATP) but i cant do it in one bit.... so if i break it up do i get the same benifits????

also... several years ago when i was in PT for my back... the therapist had givin me a sheet of exercises (stretches and such) i was supposed to do before i even got out of bed.... does anyone know a good physical therapy site that would have that information? they were like lay on your back and pull your knee to your chest, while lifting the oposit arm over your head... and lay on your side and lift your leg up.... mostly just moving the legs and arms.... but i know it helped to stretch the back.... does anyone know of any good sites for this info??

thanks!

Believe me when I say "I feel your pain," being a fellow bad-back-sufferer myself.

Try this site: badbackclinic.com

They have all kinds of info and some exercises.

As far as getting in some exercise...any exercise is better than NO exercise as long as you are not hurting yourself.

When I started working out with WATP's video.....I would get some back ache and I think it was because when Leslie Sansone would remind me to suck or tighten my tummy muscle...someone mention to me that I am out of shape and my back was not in shape. It eventually went away but once in a while when TOM is near....I still get a little backache. Hope your back ache gets better. Take care.

you get the same benefits from doing lots of little cardio's as one big one...people often break it up into 15 mins in the morn and 15 mins at night.

Cool... thanks guys...

i think that some of my problem is posture related... something i have been working on since highschool (my posture used to suck... just think of the average punk with sloped shoulders and thats me!! LOL.... ) i LOVE the way leslie reminds us about "beautiful spinal alignment; all through your exercise, all through your life!!"

but my problem is also related to something that happened when i was pregnant with my 5 year old daughter... i started gettingh SEVERE back pain/sciatia.... and the docs think i either damaged a nerve or the cartelage.... but they all say loosing weight can only help me!!!!

i ended up today only doing one 5 min (more like 6.5 i went past my timer to finish the second song cause the timer went off 3/4 of the way through) session of "inside walking" but then i went on to rearrange (and clean) the bedroom living room and kitchen (moved about a ton of stuff!!!) so im just plum tuckered out...

tomorrow i plan for two!!!

thanks

I have a long history of back problems, and began developing osteoarthritis in my knees in my late teens/early 20's (when I was still quite thin). At my top weight of 230, both my back and my knees were major problems, causing a lot of pain and serious mobility problems. I found it almost impossible to exercise. However, after I had lost about 30 pounds, both my back and my knees showed marked improvement, and now, after 75-80 pounds lost, I am mostly free of back problems. The knee problems remain (hereditary), but to a much more manageable extent.

I know you're looking for something you can do right now, and the other posters have given you some good suggestions, but I thought it might help to know just how much losing even a small amount of weight can help with what you're describing. What I did, since exercise was mostly out of the question, was just to cut my calories, and I got very good results even without exercise. I began exercising when I was able to do so without a huge amount of discomfort. So, if you're having trouble exercising, I'd advise you to be patient, and concentrate on cutting calories, and working in exercise as you can tolerate it. If it's causing you misery, then you're not going to stick with it, so just do what you can. Things will be better when you are at a lower weight, most likely. Good luck.
