I've lost 11 pounds simply from walking, bike riding, and fishing........I love fishing.........I never realized how many calories you can burn an hour...it's like close to 300. of course I also watch what I eat....

Jumping rope is a pretty good workout that you can do at home. All the calisthenics you used to do in PE class also work. If you're just starting out you want your exercise routine to keep your heart rate elevated for around 20 minutes, anything less than that is not super beneficial.

I'm a big fan of workout videos: cardio, strength, yoga, Pilates.... whatever. There's something to suit your current fitness level and general preferences. And, of course, if you buy enough of them, you can have oodles of variety -so boredom isn't a factor. (That's an argument I make to myself almost everytime I'm out shopping!) It's important to remember, though, that ANY exercise increases your level of fitness but may not result in weight loss. If you want to lose weight, you have to expend more calories than you take in. It's that simple.
Exercise can help in expending calories, of course. But if you're currently gaining weight (as a general rule), exercise might well only help you to maintain weight -or slow the gain. Unfortunately, we have to watch what we put in our mouths :(
