 evening is the worst
Author: Lorrie

Hey gang,

I am a night owl and I find that the late evening hours are the most difficult time to ignore my desires to eat...got any suggestions? Right now I take a cup of tea and sit in the bath with a good book. The bathtub is the one place I have never been able to eat. I'm getting pretty wrinkled though, so I could use some new ideas.

I find that in the evenings, if I brush my teeth, it cuts my appetite, probably because not much tastes good when it's mixed with toothpaste taste.

No-sugar-added frozen fruit bars - 25 calories each

No-sugar-added popsicles - 15 calories each

Healthy choice popcorn - 100 calories per bowl (1/2 bag)

homemade salsa without sugar is low in calories,
have with BAKED Tostito tortilla chips, 110 calories for 20 chips
with only 5 calories from fat

That's a few ideas for now, don't have time to write much more for now,
but if I don't check back on the list later tonight, then I'll probally check back tomorrow and try to remember to write a few more low-calorie snack ideas.

I make sure I can have a bag of popcorn everynight for those cravings. I get Orville Reddenbachers Movie theatre butter it's 227 calories for the whole bag. I don't eat breakfast so it's easy to work the popcorn in for me.

When I get the cravings I can't eat one thing, I need alot of it! So it's either the popcorn or cheddar cheese pretzels, 110 calories for 20 of them.

Suggest you get some "practical" weight loss books to read, or plop down in front of the computer with a LARGE water bottle (and chewing gum) and search the web for some inspiring weight loss stories and tips...there are hundreds of websites out there written by people who are in the process of removing weight--many are very interesting and motivating. Just make sure you avoid the sites that are pushing drugs and whacko diets (and there are THOUSANDS of those).

Water . . . and lots of it. Oh, and find something to do that keeps you busy. Evening eating is almost always out of boredom.

working to resolve this challenge as I write. I had two months of snack free evenings, but chose to stay up one night and started the vicious cycle all over. What worked for me during those two months was getting up early to exercise so by evening I needed to get some sleep. Contrar my post is at 2:00 a.m. and I opted to log on instead of eat. Early rise for me today by evening sleep will be more appealing than snacks

It's a habit I was unable to break so I just saved calories for the evening. I also made sure I had low cal snacks in the house. Not like last nights bagel!!
Yogurt was a favourite and fruit with ultra low fat cool whip.

I totally understand how you feel. I have a pretty early bedtime, but we also eat dinner early too which leaves several hours before bedtime to sneak into the kitchen.

I would prefer not to eat anything at all and I find if I am busy with some kind of simple project, I can't get up and snack. - I knit.

Last night, I knew there was one of those Hagan Daas raspberry sorbet-yogurt bars left in the freezer (only 98 calories) and I knew it was being saved for me. I put off eating it as long as I could, then sat down at the tv for my Rob Lowe fix (I'm a child of the 80s, what can I say?) and picked up my knitting.

I got so wrapped up in my knitting, so to speak, that bedtime came and I hadn't had the chance to go to the kitchen and eat my dessert!

Knitting is easy to pick up and the bigger the needles, the faster the projects go, which makes it that much more fun (I knitted one entire sleeve in two hours last night).

Good luck :-)

This used to be a SERIOUS problem for me. Two things have helped to "fix" it...
1. I go to the gym at night, no food there!
2. Started a 7pm cutoff time for eating, couldn't have a bite after that time!
