 eat-exercise or exercise-eat????

I was wondering if it was better to exercise before you eat breakfast or should you eat breakfast first before you exercise? I've heard that you should eat first to get your metabolism going.. Can anyone tell me what the correct way of doing it is?
Thanks..
Pam

From everything I've read...it is advised to do your workout first thing in the morning BEFORE you've eaten (this is for fat loss) because apparently your body will reach into its fat reserves at this time rather than using up carbs you may have eaten in a meal prior to working out for its energy. But personally, I am a breakfast eater..and cannot...absolutely cannot function until I've eaten something...so, I eat b/f with my kiddies, send them to school and then I do my workout after an hour or so since my meal.

Hope this helps...but again...figure out what works for you...tinker and tweek your regimen around you and your goals and see what does it for you.

:) :) :)

I hate to exercise after eating. I have reflux problems when I do. I usually need to wait at least an hour or two. I suspect its pretty much an individual thing.

I don't know about you, but I cannot exercise on a full stomach. Fitness experts generally agree that a full stomach slows you down. So do the workout first, then sit down and enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

I think it all a matter of preference. I prefer to eat breakfast with my kids first and after my old goes to school I will turn cartoons on for my 2 year old And then I walk. I have found that I don't give my best effort when I haven't eaten. I think it is because I am thinking about how hungary I am. I hope this helps. :-)

kimmie said the magic words...u dont get your best effort when u havent eaten...the whole exercise before breakfast is now really kind of a myth...think about it your going to burn the same amount of calories...the only thing is that if u ea prior (wait for digestion ofcourse) and then exercise your efforts might be better than not eating and therefore burn even more cals...remember when doing cardio, minimal amount of energy comes from fat itself....whilst u will use a little more fat as fuel if u dont eat before exercise, it doesnt really matter becauseyour still burning calories all the same...it doesnt matter where they come from cals are cals...so in my opinion, definately eat

Gym Machine,

I know many people don't like to workout after they have eaten but I think that is largly do to the fact they ate too mucvh. From what I have read and heard, you have a low clorie high energy snack to give your workout an instant edge. You have to have some fuel for the race car if you want to compete. As for how much you eat it all depends on the type of work out you are doing, light, moderate, heavy? If you are using weights I say EAT!
