 don't know how to start

I just stumbled onto this site, and I've never posted anything ot the web before so please be kind. I have a lot of weight to lose, and I've only just realised that I need to do it yesterday. I have two kids (2y and 7 months), we've sold our house, (have to move out at the end of this month), and we are moving into an apartment while we build a new house (and when I say we build I mean we as in ourselves). I just don't have the energy to do it all. That's why I mean I have to lose it yesterday. I don't intend to start a crash diet or anything short-term like that, but I am looking for lots of tips on how to get the weight-loss started quickly and efficiently. Thanks

Welcome Lisa, and I am so proud of you for taking that 'scary' step to post to this type of site, or any site for that matter. I really understand!

First thing...get out there and start walking...start exercising...take your kids to the park and push them around and then have them play while you do stretches...and then take them around the park again. As soon as you start exercising you are going to feel the energy increase and you are going to be raring to go. Then, you need to take a hard look at what you are consuming...everything...look at the big picture and see what things you can change.

This is going to be a lifestyle change for you Lisa and you can do it! You can do it for your kids...to be around for them when they grow up and to do this for yourself because you are ready! I started off by walking around the park everyday. A mile walk...and I felt great. Then the 2nd week led into the 3rd and the lbs started to come off. My clothes got looser and I started to see and feel the difference and THAT got me motivated for my next week, and then the next.

Try this website...it is www.fitday.com (it's free). I use it, and I am able to track all of my exercise and EVERYTHING I mean everything I put in my mouth! Plus, you can put in your goals...and it does not take a lot of time.

I hope this is a start for you...Good luck Lisa...You can do it!!!

yes i tried the fitday logs too for a short while..basically to get a rough idea of how many calories i was ingesting a day over an average week

i appluad u if u can keep using this tracking system. I cant be bothered counting every calorie that goes into my mouth because lets face it, its a meticulous process.....somehow u know if you have had a good day or bad, and over time, you should notice how these good days have come across.

if you can use the site, great go for it, but if you dont like meticulously counting calories let it be known it is no big deal. I know of alot of gym junkies, trainers, and even athletes who dont count calories for this purpose. After a while you get to know some value of what you are eating and learn to read labels which is just as effective. Good luck all

Well, for me...counting the calories of EVERYTHING I eat is really working (40 lbs since November) and I have ANOTHER 60 to go...so since I am on a mission, I LOVE this site for my program. I do know that when I hit my HUGE goal, I am going to step back and look at a maintanence program, and see if I need to continue to count EVERYTHING I eat...so, just like GymMachine said, whatever works for you!

Good luck Lisa...is a long road, but we are all Winners at a Losing Game.

Lisa, Congratulations on having a new house! Since you're a busy mom of 2, I can see that time management is essential in you current life. First, start small. Start at you own pace. Promise yourself to lose 10 pounds first, and then another 10 and another 10... and so on... just keep updating you goal. For every pound that you lose, you'll gain more energy, stamina and strength. It can be a 10 min walk around the block in the morning and afternoon. Consider your house chores or carpentry (since your building a house) as your 'workout'. Isn't it a fun work out? For weight loss startup you can go to this website www.startlosingpounds.com Theres a wealth of info there and I hope it can help you on your weight loss journey.
