Ok, so I got my results back from my MRI and my blood work. They both came back normal. So, I am majorly relieved that it's not a tumor or any other horrible diagnosis, but I am still left with the questions.....
why am I having weekly migrains?
and
Why do I have unexplained weight gain of 15 pounds over the last 3 months even though I continue to work out?
One thing I have come up with is depression. The internet says that migrains can be caused by stress & depression. I am typically a very happy person, but my life has been so stressfull lately and I have been extremely mellow and quiet lately.
ONe thing that has gotten me down is the fact that after losing 80 pounds I plateaued for 6 months losing and regaining the same 3 pounds over and over, every week!!!! then my Dad almost died about 6 months ago. Now my Stepdad has relapsed with cancer and now has a brain tumor.
I guess when I go back to the doctor I'll check on the depression, but don't anti-depressants make you gain weight? That depresses me just thinking about it..... ugh.....
I've also been researching gastric bypass and lap band procedures. I know that it would help me and am feeling like it could be my only way to lose the weight. But the depressing thing about that is that my insurance won't cover it, and I don't have the $$$$$

I don't feel motivated to go work out, but I'm getting my butt off this chair NOW AND HEADING TO THE GYM.... maybe a little cardio and sweat will lift my mood today.......

To answer just a part of your question--antidepressants vary greatly. Some are associated with weight gain, but in most cases, that's because they increase your appetite and cause you to eat more. Some actually cause you to lose your appetite--Prozac was originally going to be marketed as a diet pill, because it suppresses your appetite. Bottom line, for the most part, it's still calories in, calories out when your taking antidepressants. There are a ton of them out there, so you can ask your doctor for one that isn't associated with weight gain, if you go that route.
As for the plateau, one as long as yours indicates that you are simply eating and exercising at the maintenance level for your weight. A lot of people, including myself, have found that weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. Working out three times a week is great, but if you're not losing weight, you need to decrease your calorie intake.

Anti-depressants do not make you gain weight and the ones I have been on in the past actaully listed weight loss as a side effect, but weight gain as well. The medication could increase your appetite, therefore you would gain weight or it could decrease your appetite and you may lose. My appetite was always decreased somewhat but I don't think I ever lost any weight because of it.
If you are indeed depressed and you can't pull yourself out of it, then I would go for the medication. I for so long was depressed (my whole life) and finally decided to do something about it in my mid 20's.
Exercise has been shown to help depression. I've been off any type of anti-depressant for about 4 years now and I attribute some of that to my healthy lifestyle.

How interesting that we all have this in common ... hmmm.
Mine is episodic tho'. In fact one GP called it reactional depression.
I haven't been on anything for about 2 years now. Exercise is helping, I'm sure.
Right now, our health care system is a mess. Our little hospital has been amalgamated with a bigger one and they're making sweeping changes that are pretty threatening to me and my job. I kinda feel that swirling around my head. But I'm not drowning in it. At least I have control of my own body. If that makes any sense.
Funny that this should come up today. I'm having trouble getting going. I haven't eaten. I'm not dressed or showered. I have errands to run and here I am at the computer still. Almost three hours after I got out of bed.
Thanks for the reminder gals. I'd better get a move on here.

It does sound like depression, hon. Stress, worries and depression can do crazy things to your body, including headaches.

Hi Melody,
First I would just like to say that I understand what you are going through. My father recently died of a heart attack at the age of 57, and a total of four other relatives have also passed away within 5 weeks of my father. I have even been having daily migraines as you described. I am still struggling with the depression that has resulted from my losses and the unfortunate weight gain that has followed. I recently started paxil to help deal with the emotional withdraws and it has truly given me back at least the energy to get out of my pajamas every day and return to the land of the living so to speak. You should definitely speak with you doctor though so that he can direct you to the medication that would most likely help you. As far as the migraines are concerned I just experienced one of the best treatments for them. I had a full body massage. For the first time in years I had no tension any where, and I was able to sleep through the night with out any sleeping pills. My migraine simply disapeared. I hope that you will feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about some of things you have going on right now. But positivity is the key....
You have made great weightloss gains from your original weight (start weight)
I know that a lack of Protein in your diet can cause migraines, mood swings, depression, low metabolism, loss of memory, and fatigue.
I recieved some this info from a website I went to called www.slimstart.net
It seems to be an incredible program which I am thinking of trying...but that is some the facts that gave me about people losing weight and other important factors to kick your FAT BURNING into high gear!
Anyways.....it is a interesting site...
